My wife is a teacher at a large publlic high school, maybe the biggest, with 8 yrs exper, math degre...and she aint making no$40K.
My mom and sister are teachers, wife and my dad was on the school board 20 years. It is not a question of whether a teacher is making 30K or whatever and working 7 to 5 or 8 to 3. It is the quality of the people going into education. If salaries where higher, you would get better people/more competition in education. It is a sad fact that most teachers are not great teachers. They got into education because of all those reason listed above....time off, low expectations, "I want to coach". With the world we live in today, it is becoming apparent that if we want to reach the level of education for EVERYONE that it is going to take to keep the US a superpower and get people off of the gov check, then we are goign to have to get the kids from the crib and start from there. PreK is going to be the next big topic in MS public education. Once a kids is in 2nd grad he/she is lost and is not going to make up ground.....and that kids is going to hold mine back from the education he could be getting because a teacher is going to spend most of thier time with the slow one, because they are so far behind. All that said.....I would love to see where MS ranks if they did the ranking county by county and cut out the Delta. No offense to my friends over there, but you didnt go to public school over there anyway.
Did I kill that duck?...well yeah.
