had to put my old lab down today

Postby 4DUKHTN » Wed Apr 21, 2010 5:54 pm

As most of you have noticed this last fall and this spring we have been bringing around our old lab, Dash. Well over the last several months, his health has gotten worse and it even got worse at the grand. Dash has never been to a grand so we loaded him up and took him to LA for the grand. He was at every test cheering on Memfis and the other dogs. Dash is a very loving dog that loves to be petted. His health took a turn for the worse at the grand. He lost control of his bowels and we noticed he was having problems getting up. We headed home on Tuesday and decided to take him straight to the vet and get him checked out. He was examined and xrayed and determined he had a mass on his spinal cord. The mass was entrapping nerves that control his bowels and that controls his rear legs. We gave him a shot of steriods yesterday to see if it would make him any better. We was given the chance to take him to State at the vet school and have a MRI and/or Cat scan done. At 9 years old, I decided not too. Today has been the longest day for us and Dash. He has went to the bathroom all over himself and has gotten where he couldn't get up. I decided to make the call to my vet and make all of Dash's pain go away. It is a hard decision to make and it is one that I will have to live with for the rest of my life. I dont want him to suffer. He has always done what I said and I didn't want him to suffer.

Please keep us in your thoughts....

Disclaimer: I didn't put this up here to get opinions of everybody of what they would do...I made the decision and it is final....

Dash, I will miss you buddy.....Like Claudene Cooper says, hug the dogs.

Jason, I wish I had the chance to meet Dash. I didn't know you had him at the grand. Hell, I didn't know you had him period. Sorry for your loss brother, but you made the right decision. Keep on strokin' with memfis, cause he's a fine dog. I'll see you in Ga. at the next grand.

You told me at Black Warrior he was starting to go down hill but that still doesn't make it any easier.

Sorry to hear about this Jason.

Thoughts and prayers sent from us. I know it's been tough, be thankful for the memories...they'll stay with you after the hurt leaves. Such an injustice, that we love them so much and their lives are often too short. Hang in there as best you can, and call if you need anything.

Sorry for your loss! You made the best decision for Dash. Just think! You could not have chosen a better Last Road Trip than the Grand

Jason, Sorry for your loss and tuff decision that had to be made. Glad I got to give dash a stroke on the head this weekend. Again sorry you had to make that decision but it sounds like you did the right thing.
