Greetings first post by an Indiana Yankee soon to be a transplanted Mississippian.. wonder what you call that and no Moron is not it!!!

Took a job in Columbus, MS.. Been to the town about four times in the past and like Columbus just fine, however the wife and i are country folks

Never lived in town in our life and really don't want to now, need a place with a little ground and pole barn at the least..

The co i'm going to work for is flying the wife and i down at the end of the month to look around and feel things out.. Looks like West Point MS is a bit smaller and more rural than Columbus..

Are there water front homes avail onthe Ten Tom? Any advice from you all as to where we should look? What's the can't miss/do things of the Golden Triangle as i've heard it described.. Been told we have to make a msu baseball game and watch the scenery..

We live out in the sticks in IN, have a short hair and a beagle that'll be coming with us and yes they both hunt.. Better than me most days..

We both love to fish, i like to hunt, trap, shoot, you name it.. Boys in college so it's just the wife and i for the most part..

any advice would be much appreciated!

Welcome to Mississippi. I work at Columbus AFB. I live in Caledonia, which is about 10 miles north of Columbus. We just got a traffic light about a year ago, so it is a pretty small town. If you are going to be working in the industrial park, west Lowndes county is convenient and has plenty of room out in the sticks. There are places for sale along the Tenn. - Tom Waterway. Do you have kids at home? If so, the schools may be a concern. You definately want to be picky about that around here. If you have kids at home that will attend a public school, West Lowndes in not the area for you.

Welcome to Mississippi!!! I lived in Starkville for a while so I'm a little partial to that side of the Golden triangle. Columbus may be a little more "town" that you want to live in but you only have to drive 5 minutes in either direction to hit the country! Depending on where you work, Starkville can be less that a 15 minute drive so don't forget to look there when considering where to live!

And don't let people give you crap about moving to Mississippi. We do wear shoes, we do know how to read, and no matter what you read on the news it is not all about race here.

Welcome to MS. East MS is great, and you will find all the game and fish you can stand. Don't let the stereotypes you have heard fool you. There are good people all over this state and as far as I am concerned, the area you are moving to is one of the best. If you can survive July and August, you will be fine. as stated earlier, where you work (and how close you want to be to it) will make a slight differnece on preferrence of which 'sticks' you settle in. LOTS of lil towns all around the golden triangle and plenty of 'country', too (that's not quite out to the sticks, but not in town either). plenty of waterfront (may be creek front) property available.... depending on how much you want to spend, as to where.
