Osteochondritis Dessicans (OCD) Diagnosis

Postby Relentless » Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:16 am

What does everyone know about this?? I have done some research and found out the likely causes, and the actual science behind the condition. The vet is reccomending surgery, as these symptoms have been ongoing for a year or so now. Has anyone had any experience with this condition? What are some reccomendations?? Thanks in advance fellas.

I know that it is genetic and sometimes skips generations making it very difficult to remove from your lines once it is there.
I once spoke to a stud dog owner on the phone for over an hour about his dog. The dog was beautiful and quite talented. I explained what I was looking for with the breeding and that health was of the utmost importance. Towards the end of the phone call he told me this stud had been diagnosed with OCD. He was still able to retrieve and had his FC/MH, but the owner knew I wouldn't want OCD in any future generations no matter the talent the stud would add...

Thanks! I have a friend who asked me to post this here. he was concerned with going through with the surgery with fear that the problem will never fully be resolved... he was curious as to post surgery performance.
