DirecTv, Dish, Or Comcast

Postby jtdumallard » Fri Mar 26, 2010 9:02 am

I know this has been covered before. Been looking at all three this morning and the bundled packages that they offer. What are the pros and cons. Ive about narrowed it down the Direct and Comcast.

Also, Is there a way to have internet at my home through my cellular provider? Ive got cell south and have the smart phone plan on two phones? Im thinking that ive seen some people have this option. We dont have a land line nor will ever get one due to our cell phones being our land line.

alec how is directs high speed internet service. My only thing with direct or any satelite service is that it seems that during every rain storm or wind that the service goes out. My inlaws have direct and i bet ive never watched a football game at their house without the satelite going out due to weather or something or that nature.

I've only had my direct TV go out twice. during katrina, it got out of whack and I had to readjust it, and during the big snow a month ago, too much accumulated on the satellite and I had to knock it off. During regular storms, it never messes up. if we have like a tornado, it will blip every now and then, but not bad at all.

As far as high speed goes, all satellite high speed sucks. My advice would be (and what I use) is to get southern pines internet. they are a local company and I get either 3 or 6 meg, i can't remember, for 29 a month. the same ATT service is 50 a month. That was cheaper for me than bundling all the comcast stuff together.

And direct TV just got versus.

+1 as well. We have had no major problems. I also use my HD dish from my place for tailgating with no problems.

+1 for direct, also you don't have to have phone service to get at&t high speed you just have to have the line into your house and I only pay 25 dollars a month for it.

I signed up for dish. It seems to work pretty well. The basic package has everything you need except an outdoor channel. You get 4 ESPN's. We pick up all of of Memphis' local channels. Can't tell you about internet or HD stuff. I'm too cheap for all of that.

I have had both Dish and Direct. I like dish better it has only gone out twice since I have had it and those were some serious storms. Dish has some pretty cool interactive channels and I could not get the local weather with Direct.

You can add outdoor channel to any package use to be like 3 bucks a month or something. Saying that sometimes I wished I still had the comcast bundle but its not an option here. Direct is 70 house line is 50 and internet is 40. I been meaning to look at some other options for land line other than at&t

Pretty soon you will be able to get Uverse from AT&T. We have already launched it in the metro Jackson area and Ridgeland, I think. Here in Vicksburg all of the systems are in place, but for some reason we have not launched it yet. With Uverse you get all of the channels of DirecTV plus highspeed internet up to 10Mps, where as standard aDSL's highest speed is 6Mps, as well as your phone. From what the guys that I work with tell me over in Jackson, the installers are also installing a cellphone booster in-house as well. I did not know this was something we were offering, but one of my co-workers said they came and installed it with his system.

The Uverse also offers more PIP and multiple views, or something like that. I have only seen mini movie descriptions of all that it does, but it looks to compete with all of the Dish and local TV services.

Oh, and my co-workers in Jackson say the Uverse is $99 a month; this is your TV, phone and intenet.
