Information that was taken from both websites! The ingredients for both look similar but there has to be something in Pro Plan that makes it $25 more expensive!

Dog food?
Re: Dog food?
chance wrote:The term is...total digestable nutrients. TDN will be show as a percentage of the total. All feed has some type of filler. Rex Dog Food was made in Horn Lake Miss. and one of their biggest ingredients was the snack food purchased at Kelloggs in Memphis. Raised the fat content but not the protein content.
Protein content does come from both animal and vegetable sources. Animal sources being the most digestable. To determine the best food for your dog, find out the total digestable nutrients and the portein sources.
Lots of nutrional studies have been done with the dogs that are used to pull the dog sleds. Euk has done some very extensive work with these dogs. Plenty of info out there. Expensive dog food may not be so expensive if you feed it in smaller quantities because it is more digestable.
By the way, I feed Pro Plan.
Well said.
I feed the Purina Joint Mobility and mix in the pro plan performance during season.
Re: Dog food?
Anyone looked at INNOVA I have all our dogs on it and all I can say is I love it. It is a little pricier but you feed less and it's almost like feeding a RAW diet. They have great looking coats, teeth look good, etc.

Re: Dog food?
what's everyone's opinion on Science Diet? My girlfriend's mom can get what she refers to as a kennel pack of Science Diet (40 lbs.) for like 20 bones and some change... I've been utilizing this to the full extent. What's the general consensus on Science Diet?
not to hijack your thread, I was just wondering the same thing...

i dont feed euk anymore cause is got to dang expensive. i had someone ask the other day why i dont feed Cash top of the line dog food and i replied by saying if you buy the pink bag then ill feed it to him![]()
while we are on the subject what is the best dog food for the best price? i was looking at some and purina one they have at wal mart didnt seem to bad compared to others but im not very well versed in dog food.
thanks
TJ,
Get with BrettG on here. He purchases Eukanuba by the pallet and can work you out a deal on 44 pound bags. I purchase bags from him anytime I can at a fraction of the cost of PetsMart. He is located in Corinth.
If anyone in the Vicksburg area would like to start going in on a pallet of Eukanuba 30/20 Performance, let me know. You get a 44 pound bag for $33 a bag, versus a 40 pound bag at $49 a bag from PetsMart. A pallet comes with 24 bags.
How can I get in touch with this BrettG person? I don't live in Vicksburg, but would love to save any amount of money I could on dog food. I own a chocolate lab that goes through dog food like crazy. I can't seem to satisfy his appetitite and the Purina One just doesn't seem to fill him up. How do I know if this Eukanuba will do that? Thanks for any help, I've inhereited this dog from my ex-boyfriend who deployed overseas to Afghanistan and not really sure how to take care of it. I'm used to tiny dogs who barely eat anything.

Re: Dog food?
MSGirl,
As a general rule, the better the food, the less you have to feed. In our kennel most of the dogs eat like they have never been fed before. We feed Enhance Pro Athlete 30/22. Due to its high digestibility and high protein & fat content we have to feed only 3-4 cups to each dog per day. Most of them seem hungry all the time, however, they have excellent coats, muscle mass and body weight.
Even though your dog may appear to never get his fill, that does not mean that he is not getting what he needs from what you are feeding.
To answer the question that started this thread, I think that the q1uality of the food that you use is very important. While some dogs will appear to thrive on anything (I have a buddy whose dog looks great on Pedigree), for optimum performance most dogs need optimum nutrition. Over the years I have used a number of different foods, and I have found that even though a dog may "look" good on an inferior food, that does not mean that they perform well on it in the field.
As stated above, in our kennel we use Enhance 30/22. I think that it offers the best combination of value and performance available. However, there are other high quality foods available such as Euk, VF Performance and Pro Plan.

Re: Dog food?
You can get Enhance Pro Athlete in Flora at Ms. Agri supply. And you can get Pro Plan Performance at Petsmart for 40.99 for a 37lb bag.
