training for squirrels

training for squirrels

thinking about getting feist puppy and training it to tree some squirrels. any suggestions on how to train them on my own. during the summer months

Dried squirrel hide to get em interested. Caged squirrel for the dog to worry with. You can release the squirrel in area where the dog can chase up a tree. Treeing cats is also good training for a squirrel dog. After that, lotsa shoe leather.

not that feists arent good squirrel dogs, but you may also look into a jack russell terrier with some good parents.

Dad has two of them one is a very good squirrel dog and a true killer.. he pulled a possum out of the hole the other day and killed it... you could hear the bones in that possum breaking when he chomped down...

The other one believe it or not has no interest in squirrels but always loved to chase a ball.... long story short, he is now an excellent dove dog.

Both are extremely smart. Saw the one dog climb a fence post one time to get the ball off!!

If u live where u can let the dog run loose,put u up a feeder to get the squirrels in your yard and if he has it in him he will train his self.started a many that way good luck!
