Statement from Delta Waterfowl Re: The Kind Ammendment

Postby Micah » Sat Nov 24, 2001 10:34 pm

I picked this up at the festival in Stuttgart today, and I thought it might be of interest.

This message is copied from a letter released by Peter Trexler, Senior Vice President of Delta Waterfowl Foundation.

--------------------------------------------
Dear Duck Hunter,

There has been some significant misinformation about Delta Waterfowl's position on the Boehlert/Kind amendment to the H.R. 2646 Farm Securities Act. Delta Waterfowl did not become a signatory to the amendment because we were concerned that the amendment was overly aggressive, and would potentially place all conservation provisions in jeopardy.

Delta has veen a long-term supporter and advocate for incorporating conservation provisions as a part of the Farm Bill. The Conservation Reserve Program, Wetland Reserve Program, and other conservation components of the Farm Bill have significantly improved the landscape for waterfowl and a variety of other species.

While Delta has been an outspoken supporter of these conservation initiatives, we clearly recognize that this legislation's mandate is to provide for the long-term viability of the family farm. Delta aknowledges that the various conservation provisions of the Farm Bill illustrates the agricultural community's interest and committment to maintain, creaate, and enhance waterfowl and other wildlife habitat.

Recognizing that 90% of North America's waterfowl are produced on private lands, Delta understands that it is critical to work in partnership with producers to ensure the long-term health of waterfowl. Only when conservation and agriculture can effectively work together can we hope to ensure bountiful fall flights for the future.

Best wishes and good hunting,

Peter Trexler

Well, both of you could have bought me a beer. I was there Friday am-pm. Watched the dogs and bought a few things. Drove over from West, MS. There were no birds on the way or the way back (went to Greenville and came back through Helena). As everyone has stated it is very dry. Hope that you all had a good time. Jack

Shoot them sprigs on their first pass!
