L.D.W.F. AGENTS ARREST MISSISSIPPI MAN FOR CLOSED SEASON DUCK HUNTING VIOLATIONS IN CONCORDIA PARISH
Release Date: 02/24/2010
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents arrested a Mississippi man on Feb. 17 for migratory game bird violations and other charges in Concordia Parish.
Doyle Gene Seymour, 34, of Natchez, Miss., was arrested and charged for hunting coots during a closed season; hunting migratory game birds from a public road, with an illegal weapon and from a moving vehicle; obstruction of justice; driving without a driver's license; possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle; contributing to the delinquency of a minor; and discharging a firearm from a public road.
Agents received a call about someone shooting a .22 rifle off the Mississippi River Levee along La. 3196 near the Brandenburg bar pits. Agents found the vehicle in questions and were in the process of pulling the suspects over when one of the suspects tossed a .22 rifle out of the window.
Agents stopped the vehicle that was driven by Seymour with his 15-year-old son in the back seat. Agents located a dead coot in the back of Seymour's truck and retrieved the .22 rifle that was thrown from the truck.
After interviewing Seymour, he admitted to agents that he allowed his son to shoot at birds from his vehicle off the levee. Seymour was arrested and booked in the Concordia Parish Jail for the above charges.
Possession of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, driving without a driver's license, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, discharging a firearm from a public road and obstruction of justice all have bonds that are determined by District Court. Hunting coots during a closed season, hunting migratory game birds from a moving vehicle, with an illegal firearm and from a public road are charges that are pending in Federal Court.
Agents involved in this case are Senior Agent Trey Mason and Senior Agent Joey Tarver.

Re: Still Hunting
NO DOUBT HE WAS TERRIBLY WRONG. but come on, who can honestly say that as a kid dad didnt let you do something a little bit wrong just for fun.
Dad taking the kid out for a little target practice at the levee? Real good idea, spend time outdoors with the kids and all. But dang, the agents could have taught him a lesson, and the Kid, a valuable one as well by not putting dad UNDER the jail. That kid will ABSOLUTLEY HATE the law forever for arresting his dad for a coot??
I am sure some of yall will give me hell over this but it will make interesting conversation anyway. Just seems they could have gotten the point across a little less expensively.

Re: Still Hunting
I think the throwing the gun from the vehicle, driving while intoxicated, giving his son alcohol, no license type stuff kept the officers from just teaching him a lesson.

Give him the maximum.... the law is the law. Bet that kid wont grow up and become an outlaw, if him and his dad woulda kept on doing this through his grade school years I promise you he would have kept on doing it through his adult life

Re: Still Hunting
Does contributing have to be giving him alchohol or could it be all the other stuff?

Any action by an adult that allows or encourages illegal behavior by a person under the age of 18, or that places children in situations that expose them to illegal behavior.
The law is the law, he had to much going against him to just be taught a lesson. The guy could have easily thrown a couple cans (he had them available) on the ground or hung them in trees for targets, he didn't have to use wildlife.

I knew someone would blame the cops.

Next someone will want to sue the gunmaker and the beer company.

Re: Still Hunting
You know I didnt say that.
Dude was a dumb you know what, no doubt and we dont know the whole story at all, he could have been being a complete booty the agents.
They had No mercy on the guy. Thats fo sure.
We all know the way things actually come out depends ALOT on what is written up by the officer. Descretion and all, I know that there was an intance that even while I got in trouble, the officer helped me at the same time.
But it sho didnt happen here, or maybe it did. ??

Re: Still Hunting
it did not say he was giving his son beer, it did not say he was drunk. in any case he broke the law and deserves some punishment, but i think to charge him for everything would be a mistake. i used to love going riding with my dad while he had a beer or two on a GAVEL ROAD. who here can say they have never had a beer on a gravel road? ya shooting from they road and killing a coot was a bad idea but this may be taking it a bit to far in my opion

Let me remind you all that this is a news release, not an actual, factual, description of any/all of the events that took place.
For all we know the guy took off like a jack rabbit and they ran him down while he was tossing guns, beer and small children out the window.
Y'all put waaaaay too much stock in stuff you get off of the internet.
