I considered that my figure of speach might offend or confuse but thought it would be o.k., maybe not, sorry. My wife and my other sister-in-law are Catholic and they openly joke about the "guilt" thing. As best as I can explain it, guilt revolves around sins, going to confession, rosaries, hail mary's, giving up something at lent and the list goes on and on. I would have thought I'd be explaining this to non-Catholics?
I didn't see Schindlers List either, those types of gut wrenching movies just aren't enjoyable at all. I don't feel compelled to watch something that tears at my gut like those subjects can.
Didn't intend to stir up trouble.
boog the wussy.
passion , take a friend
Well, going to have a good time snacking some popcorn, having a laugh, wouldn't be a reason, certainly not a "date flick", but going 'cause you're feeling guilty about NOT going might be a reason?
Now, who knows more about feeling religious guilt than.................ahhh nevermind.

Hey, guys, I'm not Catholic and for that matter have never understood why y'all confess to a priest and pray to Jesus' mother...anyway....what the movie did for me was to put graphic pictures to the story I've read for so many years. It's one thing to read about the arrest and crucifixion, but it's another to see it on bigscreen. To get that vivid mental picture is very eye opening. You always see paintings of Jesus on the cross, carrying the cross, etc. but they are always sugar coated. This movie was not that at all. Mel Gibson has always been good at war and battle scenes, and for him to use that talent to portray the death of Christ is amazing. No, the focus here ain't on Mr. Gibson, it's on Jesus.
Yes, we always say "Jesus died on the cross for our sins...." but to see what actually happened in the whole sequence of events is incredible. They beat the man senseless before caning him then using the "cat o' nine tails" on him up till just before death. The crown of thorns, the march to Golgotha....all of these details and whatever else happened that the Bible doesn't mention, we don't think about when we think of the Cross. Just the act of crucifixion itself is enough to send a chill up your spine. They put the Man on a tree....they actually pinned him up there like a piece of cloth....it's not a guilt trip Booger....it's reality. It's reality that's been watered down for the last 2000 years because no one has seen the brutal act since that day. Well, now we can....and if it won't move you then I don't know what will.
And where the anti-semitic thoughts are coming from I don't know. The Jews didn't kill Him, the Romans didn't kill him, WE killed Him.

I believe wingman hit it on the head with everything. I saw it the other night and would have to say it was the most painful two hours of my life.
I guess I can understand why someone may not want to go see it; because of the blood and brutality of it, But we as humans are pretty quick to watch Gladiator or the similar.
I guess I can understand not watching it because you know how it ends, but we as humans watch plenty of old war movies that are true.
I guess I don't understand why someone would not want to see this story--well maybe I do after all, If you dont want your mental picture of Jesus on the Cross and your whole belief on how much God loves us and how dirty we really are, then yeah I wouldnt want to watch it either.
I am not trying to convince anyone to go watch it, but I would reccommend it.

mudsucker, I believe I misinterpreted Wingmans last sentence on the post on this page.
There is antisemitism swirling over the movie apart from this thread and he's probably referring to it generically and not anything directly posted on this thread.
I'm outta here, back to duck hunting topics for me.

Yeah, the big buzz about the movie is that it's anit-Jewish. Nothing to do with the previous conversations in this thread.
Commercialization or not...it gets the point across and brings the Message to thousands of people that have possibly never heard it until now.
