Verbal agreements and fair dealing

I have a grip that I have to get off my chest. I made a verbal agreement with one of the sites members with plans to pick up and pay for item. I then get a email telling me he had sold item we had reached an agreement to purchase. I really dont like dealing with or being treated in this form by anyone. Thank you
