Hybrid and Mutated Waterfowl

Postby The Waterfowler » Sun Jan 31, 2010 11:09 am

These were brought in to me this season to mount. I'm always fascinated with the oddities. These were wild birds and not the park duck/domestic/Mallard influenced varieties people often think are true wild hybrids. Both of these birds were at least 2 year olds and in prime condition. They will make nice trophies as they were taken care of and handled properly and I look forward to doing them.

Leucistic Green-winged Teal killed in NE Arkansas next to the LLDC Duck Club.

This is a MallardWigeon Hybrid and one of only 4 I've seen in almost 50 years of waterfowl hunting. It's a prime, aged adult in great shape and was killed in Oklahoma.

Great pics Pat! Did the cold weather bring an early end to your season? Didn't expect you to be posting this early today. Didn't expect I would be either but we had to deal with more ice than expected and no ducks in the bottoms, they were dead yesterday for sure!

Sucked is a good adjective for this season. We killed birds, but lost a third of our season due to flooding and ice. Shows how much Al Gore knows!

That mallard/wigeon cross is amazing. And to be in that good of shape, wow. I can't wait to see what you do to them.

From a legal standpoint, would that go against your mallard limit or be counted as a wigeon?

In TN, hybrids do not count towards your mallard limit.

Thanks for posting that MallardxWigeon. Maybe some people on here will take a good look at it and remember it the next time someone posts a Brewer's duck or MallardxPintail on here!!!

Hello everybody!
Very beautifull birds there!

This mount is very old and very neglected but I'm sure you can tell what it is.
