My mom's second husband killed one around Waynesboro when I was in school. He had it tanned and the widest part was 11 1/2 inches wide with the belly scales cut off. So yeah , I believe it's real. Had 12 or 13 rattles and a button I believe. Around 6 - 6 1/2 foot long. I've seen pics when I was rodeoing out in sout Texas of 8 plus footers.

I once almost stepped on a eight foot grass snake..yup scared to death of them...I dont like anything that looks like a snake and anything bigger than My ___________ is worth killing. So if its one inch long its getting recycled into food for the bugs.
That dang thing is going to come back again tonight when I try to sleep thanks fella's for posting My nightmare.

OFFSEASON ?,..... Ain't no such thing !
If you look at the left side (his right side) of his face, it looks un-natrual in shape as if it were superimposed upon the picture or something was doctored for sure. I believe that a rattler can get that big, only there is something wrong with this picture. I personally killed a western diamondback with a fiberglass bowfishing arrow outside of freer tx 2 years ago, that was 6 ft long and had 11 rattles and a button. My buddies killed one later that afternoon that was the same size (with a 7 mag...sissies) and let one get into the "brush" that was bigger. We saw one at "freer deer camp" (an outfitter business in town) that was about 3 1/2' long and the guy there who was buying them by the pound said it weighed 4 lbs. He told us he would buy any freshly killed or live rattlers for $5/lb. That is the area where they have those rattlesnake roundups every spring...and that is why they were buying the snakes to cook and sell.
