Decoy Brands
Decoy Brands
Of the top selling decoy brands (Flambeau, Higdon, GHG etc) which is your favorite and why?
Re: Decoy Brands
G&H decoys hands down. I sold 16 dozen GHG, Flambeau, and Carrylite to get the G&Hs. I've had them 3 years now and they look as good as new. They are made in Oklahoma and they are great decoys. The paint stays on the decoys and if you do have any problems with them Duck at G&H will make them right.
Re: Decoy Brands
Dakota decoys!! It is not even a decoy out there that can make a close second that I have seen.
Re: Decoy Brands
Dakota Decoys, not familiar with those. Will have to google it..
Re: Decoy Brands
Those Dakota decoys look good, but they do not have a price for them on the site (thats kinda scary).. What does a dozen of those bad boys cost??

You can buy Dakotas off of ebay for a $119 a dozen and this is with no tax and free shipping. I have hunted with G&H for years and also have Greenhead Gear as well and their is absolutely no comparison!! I have not had a person in our blind this year (over 20) that have not asked what kind of decoys I have. This is with Dakotas sitting next to G&H and GHG. Do yourself a favor and buy them. It is simply no comparison!!!
Re: Decoy Brands
Do you think the detail in decoys make that big of a difference??? (this is a question)
Re: Decoy Brands
I don't think that detail hurts but honestly I don't know how much it helps. The coloration on these decoys is what set them apart. 15 years ago when I was hunting you could about throw anything out and ducks would decoy to it. Now ducks are a lot wiser. Last weekend we hunted a place in south Leflore Co and my buddy had out 2 dozen G&H decoys. We killed 4 mallards in about an hour but we had a ton of ducks working but just would not fully commit. WE decided to take up his decoys and put mine out. We put out 2 dozen of my decoys. Within the next hour we put 12 more mallards in the blind and were done with our limits. My buddy and one other guy went home and ordered Dakotas that day. I am not saying that they will always make that much difference but for a little more money you can have the best looking decoy on the market. I am a firm believer in these decoys.

Re: Decoy Brands
IMO... You can't beat a good mix of some regular whatever mallard decoys, but a must in a spread should be some inflatable decoys. I have some old Duck Commander series (I believe) wood ducks and those things move around and "swim" unlike anything else. Funny story buddy mine started making fun of my "el cheapo's" and I told him, just wait and see how they look compared to other decoys out there. During the hunt, he told that would be all he buys!!! So just a thought... They are really light so they move around with hardly any wind and looks waaaaayyy more natural to wary ducks....
Re: Decoy Brands
I was deer hunting early December beside one of our duck holes which had approx. 50 - 60 mallards in it that morning. On three different occasions I watched groups of ducks circle the REAL ducks over and over again only to pick up and fly away. I thought to myself, "Need to change the decoy spread!"
Good decoys that look like real ducks are key to a successful hunt but hell sometimes even real ducks wont do the trick.

You got that right!
I really like the Higdons. We have both the super mag and the regular standard magnums and they look pretty sharp and are foam filled too.
