MDWFP email

Postby teul2 » Thu Jan 28, 2010 2:59 pm

Anyone else get this email from the MDWFP?

https://app.e2ma.net/app/view:CampaignP ... d2cc4e0cb7

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) is in full support of HB 1282 and requests your assistance changing the deer season structure in Mississippi. If HB 1282 becomes law, the deer season structure for 2010-2011 would be:

Archery October 1 – 31
Archery / Crossbow / Primitive Weapon November 1 – 19
Gun with Dogs November 20 – December 1
Gun without Dogs December 2 – 23
Gun with Dogs December 24 – January 19
Gun without Dogs January 20 – January 31
Archery / Primitive Weapon February 1 – February 15 (Zone 2)

Currently, MS Code §49-7-31 gives exclusive opportunity to archery hunters from October 1 – the Friday prior to Thanksgiving. “This exclusive opportunity was given during a time of deer protection in Mississippi with the goal to provide maximum opportunity without being detrimental to the resource. HB 1282 empowers landowners and hunting clubs to harvest deer earlier in the season with a more efficient weapon,” Chad Dacus, Deer Program Coordinator. “This earlier deer harvest is needed on some properties across the state to help reduce deer numbers in areas where there is high crop damage, habitat damage, and out of balance buck-to-doe ratios.”

HB1282 is not taking opportunity away from archery hunters. Archery hunters still have 123 days of hunting opportunity because they can choose to hunt with archery equipment during the gun seasons. “This is not a dramatic move in season structure,” Larry Castle, Wildlife Bureau Director. “This bill is moving away from exclusive seasons and allowing hunters to decide which weapon they want to use.”

If you are in support of HB 1282, contact your local representative or senator at (601) 359-3770. For a list of representatives and senators visit http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us.

Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks agency representatives will be guests on the following MS Network shows to discuss hunting regulations and House Bill 1282 which deals with deer season dates.

I hope not but I believe it will this time. Insurance companies and the MDWFP are really pushing this bill to go through. 2009 was a record year for insurance companies and deer claims on vehicles. I hate to see it happen but I believe it will pass.

Before long we'll be like those faggots from South Carolina that come over here to go "duck hunting"

I guess it get old having a 6 month deer season(firearm at that) and they got to go do something else....

Look out other states...Mississippi rednecks are going to invade yall next

*****on a more serious note, I think all this will do is give people longer to hunt, increase the pressure, make the deer more noctournal than they already are, resulting in an actual lower number of harvests than before....mark my word(that is IF "true records" are kept)

*****the MDWFP has realized the power of the dollar and are going to start exploiting and basterdising our states natural resources more so than they already are....hide and watch

*****also, can we ever do away with f'ing dog season?????? I mean seriously

sorry just wanted to vent a little and since I've been deemed a threat at the other site, I can no longer give them my constructive critisim that they say they want over there.....they only want it if you are with them

I was seeing an average of 6 deer off my bow stand that I hunted exclusively. I shot deer of of it 3 days in one week made no difference in deer sightings. After opening weekend of deer season someone else hunted it that really don't care. Made a bunch of noise didn't give a squat about the wind. I didn't see another deer off of that stand the rest of the season.
So no this will have no impact or a negative impact because this will put them nocturnal sooner. And I usually don't bow hunt until about nov. 1 because of the heat. It is usually getting bareable around then.

I got the email to... I like it.. For those counties that have a lot of deer that will give them more oppurtunity to take some more deer, but we do need a tagging system..

For those that dont have a ton of deer, it gives them more oppurtunity to see some more deer..

Also might be good for kids to.. They weather is still pretty reasonable in early november..

So what guns can a kid shoot during the primitive weapon season that don't kick like a mule? What is the recoil like on a 45/70? I have never shot one.

A kid can shoot any gun they want durring any firearm season ....even muzzleloader.

I am all for it and I and Peyton are huge bow hunters. All this BS about them going nocturnal ya ya ya is what it is BS. Deer change habits from one thing "PRESSURE".....if you bow hunt everyday they get pressured........I will take you any time you get ready put you in a food plot with 8- 15 deer and get somebody 100 yrds away to fire a rifle off and maybe, maybe 2 of them will even look around.........

I do wish they would have kept at least one weekend for just the kids......

If the department is behind it so am I......if we do not have faith in them then why waste tax money on them.....

I got it and I'm real dissapointed that the Department has jumped behind it so strongly. I have tried to find an email address for Chad Dacus and the Commissioners so I could voice my opinion to them, politely of course, but could not find it. If anyone else has it, please send it my way. I do agree with the arguments about keeping the woods quiet and all that. But I also see it another light. I wonder what's going to happen when my children are old enough to start hunting. I mean, what is going to make them to want to bowhunt when they can go gun hunting instead. Seriously, when they are that young, truly what gets them going is the fact of being in the woods and being able to go hunting. So what is going to drive them to want to pick up a bow, when they could take their gun? I'm sure some kids will still learn how to bowhunt, but I just feel like personally they are hurting the sport and the tradition that it was founded upon.

They have a forum for that.....but you'll probably get kicked off of it for voicing you opinion if you disagree with the department....
