What do hunters use before and after hunting an older dog(mine is 8.5) to recover quicker from a tiresome hunt. A guy at a camp last weekend told me about a prescription beginning with letter E that he gave his dog 40 minutes before a hunt and again afterwards. He said it really helped cut down the soreness and recovery time.
My dog has always been very fit and active...has good OFA hips. He's just slowing down even though he goes full throttle on a hunt.

Re: Medicine suggestion for faster recovery
The most common pain relievers for dogs are Rimadyl, Deramaxx, Etogesic and Metacam, with the first 2 probably the most widely used. If you see your vet, he can prescribe a couple of Rimadyl "pain packs" for you to use for infrequent hunts. If you are hunting alot, you probably will need a full sized prescription bottle.

Thanks...the Etogesic sounds very close. It was a bottle for 400mg pills. What are others of you using?
