Postby benelli870 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 10:54 am

I have a question for all you BERETTA guys, I have found a BERETTA 390 blk snth 12 in like new conditon for 400, I have read on alot of the duck sites that the 390 was one of the best ones they made ,as for as dependabilty, the guy that has the gun said, he bought it at wally world, it may have ,maybe 4 boxes of shells run through it, any opinions would be appreciated,if I buy the gun its going to my grand son

have hunted the 390 for eight years in all conditions salt marsh, timber, ponds, fields, rain, sleet and snow! Very dependable gun and a killing machine! even dropped it totally underwater once and and then proceeded to discharge at greenheads, no problems! Highly recommended! He'll love it!

Can't go wrong with the 390 IMO. I have one that I allegedly bought for my wife to duck hunt with...actually just wanted one. When I was researching before I bought it, I remember reading that the only problem with it was that it just kept eating shells. It has performed well hunting ducks, turkeys, and doves.

I wouldn't shoot anything else!
Mine still performs like it did when first purched 15 years ago despite the harsh conditions we've been through together.
I really hope it lasts me another 15 years.

The walmart version of the Beretta is hit or miss....you ever seen the dateline NBC shows about wal mart that ask the corporations that make the stuff that is sold in wal mart to get their costs down....well the "cheapen up" there manufactoring process....the Berettas sold there are the same way...they are random loose parts from the factory that are rounded up to make complete guns, and some are guns that were sold, sent back to the factory for various reasons, refurbished and sold to wal mart...some of them are "good shooters" and I have seen some that are junk. Like I said they are hit or miss.

I too have a Silver Mallard 390 that i bought as a reward for a year spent in the Middle East back in 1996. For 12 years it was my primary do anything gun, for doves, ducks, geese, and turkeys. I have to agree that it has been a rugged tough gun that would take any abuse i put it through and keep shooting.

I have one of the wally world 390's and another 390 that did not come from wally world. As far as the difference, I can not tell. The wally world gun did end up having a barrel fail. After 50 or 60 consistant rounds The barrel would "fall" It lasted for 4 yrs when I was guiding and hunting every day of the season, never jammed or mis-fired, and prolly averaged over 2000 rnds a duck season between duck, quail, dove, snipe and skeets. Just had a weak barrel.

For 400, I would not hesitate to buy it.

I also have a Silver mallard but I use Mine for Dove, Rabbit and Squirell. Mine does not pattern steel shot well at all. Never did. I have mine for at least 10 years. I have my BPS for Duck hunting. I like duck hunting with a pumo anyway..Don't shoot as fast and it is tougher with the dirt and mud and Elements
