Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
Looking to get one soon and was wondering who had what and how they like it. Getting one or the other. Thanks.
Re: Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
Dunno about PawPaw's, but Chapman is the gold standard for pirogues.

The prices on the ron chapman are great but in my opinion the paw paw's is made a whole lot tougher. I have the chapman copperhead and the canebrake. Both are good boats but will get a paw paw's next.

Re: Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
Been wondering the same thing. I like the Paw Paw pirogue, but I also like the price of the Chapman's plus they are lighter. Looking at getting the Cottonmouth, weighs 50 pounds and will hold 400.
Re: Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
have yall checked out the gatortrax ones? Im wayyy too large and top heavy for a pirogue but have seen them coona$$'s that had em when I worked down in the basin and they looked pretty cool and had those cajun anchors that you stick two rods thru holes in the hule and into the ground. But they do weigh 80lbs if weight is a concern

I have the Cottonmouth and like it alot
Re: Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
I was thinking about the Chapman "King" since it's a little wider and longer.
Re: Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
Paw Paw's doesn't have any models or prices listed. Guess I'll have to call. Everyone has said Paw Paw's is more sturdy.
Re: Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
Paw Paw's hasn't been around nearly as long as Chapman. I have looked at Paw Paw's a bunch but don't own one as I have 12 Chapmans and a paw paw won't stack in a Chapman. CUrrently Paw Paw doesn't do spud poles in theirs which is a HUGE plus to Chapman.
I love my 16' Chapman with spud poles I can hunt it just about anywhere and it's easy to blind up out in the open.
As far as Gator Trax, Kent and David are good freinds and they make a wonderful boat, but an aluminum pirouge is just way too loud. No way am I getting one.

Re: Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
Thanks Jeff, I really like the Chapman's because of the spud poles too. My only concern was that some people have told me the Chapman's aren't that sturdy. Since you own twelve you know better than anyone I'm sure. I just don't want to worry about having to fiberglass it down the road in a few years. Thanks
Re: Chapman or PawPaw's pirogue
Hmm... not that sturdy.....
Well easiest way I can put that is my newest pirouge is nine years old, and my oldest is about 25 years old. Occasionally I have to put new cypress gunnels on them and occasionally patch some of the fiberglass but I'd say if there is anything more sturdy I would like to see it.

I have a 15yr old Chapman that has been abused, but is still kicking, gonna send it back for 80 bucks to be re-worked, I wouldnt risk buying another brand!!! Chapman is def. the Gold Standard!!!!

I'd put my bobcat up against any small boat out there.
Not really the same kind of boat, but close enough.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Chapman's what it's gonna be then. Thanks Jeff. I figured that was BS.
