Jay,
To be honest without being disrespectful, there is no duck call worth what you will pay for a BGB. I have several expensive calls(all of which were given as gifts)and most of them make me very glad that I didnt dish out the $125 for it.They sound o.k. but not good enough to pay that much. The guys that I hunt with will rag someone hard if they call with a high dollar call. They figure if your call cost $125 and their call cost $20, you shoul sound that much better than them. Everyone thinks this. I'm sure you can probably call well or you wouldnt be considering this call purchase. But their is nothing that will get a person dogged quicker than pulling out a $125 duck call and sounding like crap. I strongly discourage the purchase unless it is just something you want. Or if you make good money who cares right. Im rambling......Its 4:30 am.Buy it!!!!!What the hay?

I have 3 BGBs and they all sound better than the RNT I bought last year. No Kiddin' I lost the insert to one of my calls and I sent it back to Mike Keller, he put in a new insert and tuned it for me, sent me some stickers and reeds, he was a very nice guy!!

"Everyone thinks this"???? If it matters how much or how little your stuff costs, I would find some new hunting buddies. You can either do the deal, or you can't.

I have a BGB and love it. It matters not what one pays for what he has, only that he's happy with his choice. If you want one I don't think you will go wrong with Mike.

I had a BGB before I lost the barrel in 4 foot or ice water somewhere in Ferriday. I personally think that it was a bit sharp. Good for big water and loud calls. I prefer a Echo Timber or Roten. My next call will be a Southern Game Call. As far as cost goes more time than not you get what you pay for 75% of the time. I'm far from an expert on calls and to be honest I use my Haydel's as much as I use the others. If you can afford it and want it and will use it well I don't see the harm in spending $125. It won't make you a better hunter that is fo'sure. Find one and blow it outside and see what you think

I am not at all opposed to shelling out big bucks for a call and I'll boldly pull it out anytime. But I wouldn't dream of ordering one through mail order. You just don't know what you are going wind up with. Particularily a wooden call. They each just don't sound exactly alike. I don't have any BGB calls, but I have others that are of equal quality (IMO). For my money though, I am going to try several calls before I make a purchase. I am going to the Stuttgart duck festival next weekend for that very reason.
This is only my opinon.

Wildfowler,
you beat me to the same point. If I was going to purchase a high dollar call, I would want it fitted to my calling style. It's VERY hard to do that through the mail or over the phone. Some call makers WILL go the extra mile, even shipping a call back and forth while adjustments are made. Most of the call makers that have been mentioned can fit a call if you can catch them at their booth during a show.
Being a call maker, I know that people expect different things from their calls. I have yet to find a call that fits everybody everytime.
Beginners usually want an "easy blow" call that requires very little air to produce a feed call. The sacrifice is usually on the high end where too much air will break the call into a squeal. That's an easy thing to do when you get excited.
I prefer a call that is very difficult to overblow, but still relatively easy to feed. Someone else may pick up my call and think that it's too hard to blow.
The point is, these expensive manufactured calls all have good basic designs or they wouldn't be selling. Still, they are all intended to sound exactly the same (they don't necessarily). So what if you spend $120 bucks on a call that YOU can't blow as well as your $20 polycarbonate Wal-Mart Special? You look like a fool for buying an expensive call that you can't blow.
Bottom line, do what you have to to blow before you buy. Try out a friend's call or visit the callmaker's booths at the tradeshows. Don't settle for a really nice call that you can't blow.

best two calls in the world to hunt with in my opinion are: Haydels Cajun Squeal and PSOLT D-S cut down version. I would say I'm not alone here.
but if you want to buy a call that cost as much as a case of shells then go for it.

Duck calls are a whole lot like fishing lures. They all will catch fish at some time and place if you use the right technique. Also, some lures are made to catch fish; others are made to catch fishermen! Duck calls are just the same. TAke ole Phil, the duck Commander, for example. He built a reputation on "meat calls" but now you can get anything from a $25 wooden to a $125+ acrylic. Why? To catch more "fish"!

SOUTERN GAME CALLS ARE THE BEST. I GOT 6, YES 6 OF THEM, AND THEY ARE THE BEST I HAVE USED SO FAR. GREG HOOD MAKES THEM OUT OF CLARKSDALE MS IN A LITTLE OLD SHOP BUT HE IS MAKING ONE HELL OF A CALL. EVERY TIME WE GUIDE SOMEONE NEW THEY ASK ABOUT MY CALLS AND WHERE TO GET THEM. IF YOU CAN BLOW A CALL A LILLTE THEN GET ONE OF THESE AND GO TO TOWN . THEY ARE NOT REALLY EXPENSIVE FOR THE SOUND. I BUY A NEW ONE EVERY YEAR JUST TO TRY OUT NEW DESIGNS HE HAS COME OUT WITH . HE HAS SEVERA; MODELS AND THEY ARE EASY TO TUNE TO YOUR WIND POWER. GOTTA GIVE IT TO HIM HE HAS A GOOD PRODUCT AND IS ONE HELL OF A GUY!!!!
