When do you think the fields will thaw?

Postby Locked Up » Thu Jan 07, 2010 5:11 pm

You think by Monday it will start thawing and slight freeze that night and as of Tuesday things will be back to normal. Just woundering with this many days in the lows we are experiencing now. Alot of ice will be broke on our place this weekend.

Dude,... Bad as it's gonna be over the next 2 or 3 nights,...Ice could be an inch thick ! That'll take a while to melt with the lows anywhere under 32 degrees, and highs only in mid to upper 40's !

My advice,... save ya time and energy, for a little later in the week ! Fields will re-freeze every nite !

Perhaps next weekend will be "smokin" !

Either way,........ GOOD LUCK !!!

I agree wit Rip, I think with the Highs not being very high and the lows being below freezin, it will take three maybe four days to get back right. I would stick to deep water or moving water till at least tuesday prob Wed.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

'Locked-up'.......I hate you got problems due to ice. Like I said.....one hunter's loss is another's gain. But when I saw the title....."When do you think the fields will thaw?" ......I couldn't help it......I just had to laugh.......not at you or anybody else that has to negotiate a similar obstacle........but in the sense that folks tend to get so excited about duck hunting, the highs (as infrequently as they grace us down here) are high.......and the lows can be downright debilitating at times. Sometimes you just gotta laugh.......cause we've all had our share of the 'lows'.

The other thing.....under the circumstances......your handle happens to have taken-on a dual meaning.

'Hope you get back into action, while the ducks are here (whenever they grace the skies above your duckhole).

Well, on Wednesday two people on a four wheeler drove around on top of the ice so it'll probably be a while before it thaws.

Depends on how deep ya water is and what kind of wind ya having as to how thick or if it froze up...hey if ya gots birds on it the may just keep it open ...never know but for the most part the fields are locked up....there is plenty of other deep water that the birds will be sittin on and can sit on if they get here....one thing for sure if they are here when it thaws they are gona hit the fields real hard with all the food that is around...hell they might just go head and dry feed if ya gots standing beans in a field like alot of places across the delta......

I can say, with all sincerty, the fields will thaw when the ice melts.

i bet my ricefield in arkansas is over 3 inches deep right now. no reason for chainsaws and axes, cuase the birds know and dont waste the energy flying around looking.

however, sunday or monday afternoon, when the sun is out, those muddy places in bean fields are black, and the heat is absorbed and they'll thaw. if your lucky to find one, you'll know because assuming they finally got here in numbers, they'll be a ton of ducks on them.

a 60 degree rain would be nice to get as soon as it gets above freezing.... nothing help thaw and spread the birds back out like a warm rain. travis
