Goat Ropins

Postby catfish10 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 3:44 pm

I heard someone talking about dragging a q-beam behind there boat the other day, well here was one of my better days in the goat roping category... taking 14 year old son and friend to public lake.. get there fine, unloading boat, did not realize hook on trailer had bounced loose, when I back the boat in it rolls off the trailer into the lake, fortunately wind was in right direction blows it back in to shore.. add oil to resevoir, apparently forget to put cap back on. later cap bounces around and gets jammed under lever controlling throttle, go to slow down and can't.. shut motor off, figure out what i did in dark, get it fixed, start winding through some trees to get to spot, motor dies, try to lift it, can't, look with q-beam and rope which was tied to front of boat is wrapped around prop, sure I told son to tie it off, he says I didn't, rope is tight from front of boat to motor, find knife and cut rope off front of boat, get motor raised, while raising motor, ignition key catches on blind, bends can't turn key to start motor, thank god for some reason have extra key.. get rope off motor, motor starts with new key.... apparently boat has floated around and although I think I know which way to go, I don't.. hey who needs a GPS.. after ending up back where we started through trees figure out where I am, get back on track, finally get to spot, although it is now shooting time.. get the blind set up, 14 year olds are not real handy in the dark and finally tell the boys to just sit down and let me get it set up..starting to think I should have stayed in bed.... well in the end it all turned out good, the boys shoot 11 and the old man just cleans up cripples...

Aint that how it always happens?! When everything that can go wrong does and you deal with it without totally losing your mind, good things can happen! Congrats! It will be something to laugh about for a while!

You hit it right - 16 yr olds aren't much better at times. Sometimes mine is "super guide" and sometimes you can't roll him up to make a good "booger".
