Who hunts out of pirogues?

Just wondering who has them? Planning on starting a build here in the next couple of weeks. If yall have photos please post them!

I make about 50 hunts a year out of them. Used to build them, now it's just easier to buy them from a KNOWN mold to know exactally what you are getting and how skinny of water it will go in. I own 8 and from my experience if you want a good one, buy one. http://www.pirogue.com , they are the best. Many on here have built them, from Uncle John's plans and seem to be happy with them, but I haven't ever used one I just know not all pirouge plans are created equal.

Pirougue=drowning victim. If I was going to use a small craft, I would go with a Four Rivers layout boat. These boats are small yet stable enough to stand up in.

Irrefutable BS!! If they caused drowning I would have died over 30 years ago.

Using that logic however, riding a bicycle can kill you too, of course it doesn't because you LEARNED how to ride one correct?

Priogues are the easiest boat to maneuver around due to their light weight. Also because of their flat bottom they can get in shallow water that some of those "stable" boats just can't get into. Believe me a pirouge is a fine way to hunt.

Haha yea I plan on "learning" to use one in warmer weather just want the build done by then. Any pics?

I use one....and sometimes I hunt ducks out of it.

I stood up and pushpoled myself and my wife about 200 yds first downwind then upwind, in one this weekend with temps in the 30s. You think I would do that if there was any chance of flipping. Don't react to the boat, it doesn't want to flip. People over compensate for the tiny moves the boat makes.

I don't hunt out of a pirogue but do hunt out of a little kayak...I know most know this, but do be aware of the consequences of falling in a pirogue or any boat. Before I ever started duck hunting i got thrown in a pool waders on, its no fun tryin to get out!!!

i hunt out of one that i built about 8-9 years ago. i used the kit from unclejohn. it was super easy to build and is a great way to hunt. the bottom in mine is getting soft so it will be getting torn apart and rebuilt this summer. a friend of mine has a chapman pirogue and mine handles equally as good as his. except for load carrying but my pirogue is only about 12 foot where his is closer to 16. my rebuild will be at least a 14 footer

Built an Uncle John's bout 5 yrs ago. Hunted out of it a lot the first year or two because of where I was living and hunting. It's been sittin outside since and has gotten soft. It was a fun little build that was easy, but I'll be getting an aluminum model next time so it'll last a little longer.

Keep in mind as nice as aluminum seems, it's normally heavier and make 15 million times more noise, drop shells in it trying to re load, dog jumps around while they are working, etc and spooked ducks you will have.

i don't own one, but I will soon.

I have hunted out of a pirogue a couple of times. Definitely can get you into some backwater areas that others can't access. With anything, you have to be smart in how big of water you take it in.

Check out Water Moccasin Pirogues. They're built in north Louisiana a few miles south of Shreveport. I've had one for years. It is the sturdiest pirogue I've ever used. I have yet to turn it over unlike some other models. It's a little heavier than a hull only version but it's worth the extra weight. Good luck.
