Is that legal?

I mean, I would say yes for charity purposes, but that don't look like no charity.

Thats what I was wondering? I know I have signed atleast 100+ footballs easy but most were for somebody who has helped us or for a sick child or something like that? And most of the time it is done in the locker room. But these guys were waiting for us outside when we were leaving practice way back during camp.

report it to the university. worst thing that could happen is to find out it's a legit thing. I'm sure the university has some kind of policy in place.

its illegal???

due to NCAA regulations, has implemented new policies for autographed items and donation requests. All autograph and donation requests must be made using the Autograph/Donation Request Form (you can download the Request Form at the bottom of this page).

I still dont follow. If I obtain an autograph I can sell it to whoever I want. Cant I? People do this all the time. I aint sayin right or wrong. Are you saying that in order to get an autograph you have to go through red tape and promise you wont sell it?
Havent got any college autos in years. Pros , get em all the time. Have sold bunches. Happens every day both ways. Didnt know there were any rules pertaining to college autos. My ignorance.

So, Rice, you are at a party, some girl comes up to you, gives you a Sharpie, and asks you to sign her boobs,... you have to politely decline, and ask her to fill out the proper NCAA paperwork first???

This is off of lsusports.net. Note the last statement. Granted alot of the selling pretains to high schools not being able to make money directly or indirectly from the sale or fundraising. You can buy memorabilia and you can sell it, but I don't see how a person with 12 footballs getting them signed after a practice and selling them on ebay is very legal. Yes, if you work and get one signed and and decide later on to sell it I don't see where that's a problem, but 12 at once? If that's the case, then people would be lining up all day long waiting to get cases of memorabilia signed.

NCAA guidelines require that the following conditions be met in regards to institutional memorabilia and autographs: 1. The requested item may not be used in fundraising events for any high school organization, high school fund raising event that will benefit a charity or educational project or any high school or prospect-aged individual. High school is defined as grades nine through twelve. 2. All monies derived from the promotions activity or project must go directly to the charity, non-profit agency or educational institution listed above. 3. The requested item involving student-athlete’s names may not involve co-sponsorship, advertisement or promotion by a commercial agency other than a company’s logo or trademark on printed materials. 4. An authorized representative of the agency must sign a waiver agreeing to adhere to all NCAA guidelines regarding this request. 5. Use of the memorabilia item must have written approval from the Athletic Compliance Office. 6. Memorabilia may not be re-sold for any purpose without Athletic Compliance Office approval.

In addition, it is not permissible for a commercial agency, business or personal entity to use the name, picture, appearance or autograph of a student-athlete to advertise, promote or benefit its own self-interests.
