I actually killed two black ducks last year and i thought they were hen mallards until my doctor told me they were black ducks

Bout 6 or 7 years ago I killed several 'smallish' hen mallards, with teal colored wing patches over about a week period. 2 of them came in real early, and where diving sideways, very unmallard like.... got ragged and ragged about killing baby hen mallards by my crew (thats back when we killed ducks and layed off the egg layers). The thought of mottleds never crossed my mind then, and didnt for years, but every time one of these threads come up, I think about those teal colored wing patches and wish I had pics. And it was earle freggin arkansas... wouldnt have been no convincing anyone they where mottled up here! travis

i think it's a ruby throated cockswallower...........but, will have to get DIB's opinion on it as he's the expert that species.
