GC,

I am fascinated by the strains of mottles. They actually come in 3 strains. The FL birds are really light and the drakes bill is more yellow and the hens more orange. Then you get middle GC birds (ie LA birds) that are darker like this one with olive bill and tone downed hen bills. Then as you work you're way into TX, you start to get into Mexican ducks, which are again lighter with brighter bills. All cool birds.

Its always a joy to come out with 3 mottled ducks and have to explain to the "friendly federal warden" that no, you are NOT over the limit on black ducks......

The duck was shot in Bolivar County. Not that Mottled ducks don't come up this way. I wasn't sure if it is mottled or black but I appreciate all the info.

No offense, but profoundly incorrect.

Google it and see for yourself! Mottled ducks do NOT have the white trailer!

Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck arguing about which season it is;

Bugs: DUCK!
Daffy: RABBIT?
DUCK!
RABBIT!
DUCK!
RABBIT!
DUCK!
RABBIT!
Bugs: RABBIT!
Daffy: DUCK!!!

Where upon Elmer Fudd shoots Daffy's booty off!

Well after four pages of debate, like Gator said Canvasback!

After shooting enough mottled ducks and a few blacks in my years I say mottled. I don't pay any attention to the wing. I just "look" at the bird. A true black is MUCH darker. A mottled upon closer look almost has a cinammon color to it. It looks mottled to me.

I look at black ducks every time I go out and occasionally even shoot the wary-azz basterds. It ain't a black duck.
It's a bloody mary morning...
