i have seen guys at the ramps (as i am sure we all have) that were doing their best to even find the boat ramp, that had heard that MS DELTA was the best place in the world to kill ducks and thought they would drive over and just get out there and the duck would die just cuz they showed up, it just ain't so!!
i have spent countless days in the woods and swamps to find good holes to hunt, i keep a journal cuz i cant remember all i have seen and what happened when and where and what the conditions were in relation to the results, i am still on the low end of the curve for duck hunters, but i have never decided i was gonna drive somewhere to hunt when i had not done the proper research, maps, history of the place, and i definatley never been anywhere when i didn't at least know a local well enough to have been offered advice before going, and to know what i was getting myself into. I have never expected someone to offer up info just because i asked, and i never ask if i am not offering something in return. that is just etiquite. Growing up i was fortunate enough to have the use of a mans private duck hole, all it cost me was a few ducks(more often than not he declined), a christmas happy(that i had Momma make) and always a THANK YOU SIR, none of which was ever asked for, but it was offered because it was and is good etiquite, and to this day i am still welcome in his blind with or without him. i think alot of people in state or out could learn from this. if a man shows you his hole, never hunt it unless he offers it to you(yes even on public land) always show your gratidude for the invite(offer to pay for the gas, buy him a box of shells etc. etc) And never invite yourself!!!!!!!!!!
yes it is public land and yes everyone has the opportunity to discover things for themselves, thats what makes it great, and I don't mind Osser's/newbie's/ topwaters coming and hunting if they have etiquite and show self respect and respect for other hunters, but as we all know, that is rarely the case anymore on public ground.
so CANTFEEDERCALL, if you are real and not just yanking our chain, do your homework, find where you wanna go, and go, but DO NOT ASK without offering something in return, cuz as you are gonna find out, you will be treated rather harshley by this crowd myself included
