Well he is 14 months old and a duck getting rascal , prelims look excellent and he shows no sign of any crippling disease ! So where does the reputable and knowledgable veterinarian come into play ?

 haha I thought we were past that CC. That's ok though, that pup could have just as easily been cripple. I think its an unfair statement to say I told him "I could tell he would be cripple..." That's not what was said...he presented the pup to me for an exam, what I did tell him was that the pup has very prominant metaphyseal bone formation which could be a concern. More specifically, that could be symptom of Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy and the client was cautioned about the possibility of that disease. He was also told that it could just as likely be nothing to worry about and only time would tell. I was doing the job he was paying me to do. At the time, I didn't know you; had never seen any of your pups, and was just trying my best to give an honest evaluation of a new puppy for a client. You took an honest examination and blew it out of proportion. If I remember correctly, after we spoke about it and you had the dog further evalulated and found to be "normal", I offered to reinburse you for some of your expenses and try to make it "right" (I don't know anybody else that woulda done that); to which you refused and further refused to accept any form of peace offering. But that's fine. We've been through this...You can slam me again if you want to, but I have seen Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy before. I would rather be wrong a thousand times than to see a pup suffer through that horrible debilitating disease. BTW, I am only human; you can't possibly fathom how much information veterinarians are expected to know. Walk a day or two in my shoes and you may appreciate what it is that we do. So go ahead, beat me down and laugh about it, but the next dog who's life might need saving, could be yours or at least someone you know. :|

Thank You. I appreciate all the input. If I do decide to Breed the dog. (Number 1) it will be to a EIC Clear Sire. (Number 2) I would have all the puppies tested for EIC. It is my understanding you can flag each pup, send the dew claws removed in and have the entire litter tested. Then inform all buyers as to what EIC is and let them make a decision as to if they want a Clear Pup or a Carrier Pup.

Next Heat Cycle is on the First of February, she will be 33 months old. Definately will not breed her at this time. Will run some Field Trials with the Dog, and see how that pans out.

Come next February 2011, if all goes well I will be on the market for a Clear Sire to Breed with the Dog Name Madison.

I appreciate all the information. I had my Vet send the EIC test in and she was very informative regarding the subject. She even went as far to call several of her Field Trial Contacts to obtain their concerns regarding the dog name Madison testing positive as a carrier. She stated that she had no objection to breeding a Carrier and long as it was with a Clear Sire. I would highly recommend All Creatures in Madison, Dr. Amanda Camp is number 1 in my book.

Again Thanks for all the info.

I don't see a problem with breeding a clear to a carrier. The pups will not be affected, just give everyone documentation showing whether their pup is clear or a carrier. At some point people have to start making more responsible decisions regarding breeding their dogs, it would make all the difference in the world.
