What is the difference on AKC vs. CKC registration other than the respective kennel clubs?
I don't want to disrespect anyone's dog over one registration or the other. I'd just like to know the numbers and statistics on Labs as a whole, which one has the most in field trials, which registration is more prevalent of members of this board etc. Also, would anyone have an idea of working dogs that aren't even registered.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Registration
AKC and UKC are very well respected registries. AKC is somewhat larger, I do believe. The original "CKC" is the Canadian Kennel Club, which is also a very well respected, albeit small. The Contential Kennel Club is, IMHO, nothing other than a puppy mill that duplicated the CanKC initials. My personal opinion is that I would not buy a ConKC registered dog, because I would wonder why the litter was not registered with a real registry, or would not want to buy from a breeder that was unaware of the issues with the ConKC. You will frequently see Canadian registered dogs abbrieviated "CanKC" to avoid confusion with the other group. The number of AKC/UKC registered dogs in FT's will be orders of magnitude higher than ConKC dogs running trials, if there even are any. There are lots of fine CanKC dogs running trials on both sides of the border.

Re: Registration
Is there a process one could go thru to get a dog registered in either AKC and/or UKC if they have suitable bloodline documentation from ContKC?
From what I've read, AKC registration is closed unless both parents are AKC registered? I haven't looked at the UKC enough yet.
Are ContKC registeries barred from AKC, UKC or other trails?
Thanks for the info.

Re: Registration
The ConKC will register muts! Check your local Commercial Appeal and you will see Peek-a-poos that are CKC registered when you are really getting a mixed breed/mut. Sorry if I offended anyone, but they are muts.
Say you go and buy a pup from your buddy that does not have papers on the pup, but promises that they are pure breed or at least look to be pure breed. Well, to get a dog registered through the ConKC all you have to do is take several pictures of your dog/pup and send it in and if they deem that your dog looks like a pure breed you will get papers. Granted, your papers will basically say that it is not a pure or known to be pure breed, but you still get some papers.
On the mut breedings, again, the papers will basically say you have a mut, but a mut with papers. This is why the AKC and UKC will have no dealings with ConKC registration.
Also, the AKC requires DNA testing of any dog breed more than five times in a calender year. ConKC does not require this. Folks will say that their sire is mating with all of these females, but in reality aren't. With DNA, this takes any question as to the sire and dam out of question.
I would not touch any dog that is ConKC registered. Like GulfCoast stated, if the linage was actually good and AKC registered, then why would there be a need to stray away from AKC and go strickly with ConKC.

Re: Registration
UKC will recognize AKC registration. AKC will now recognize (accept) UKC registrations (per DocE). Neither will touch ConKC. You could possibly get an ILP to run tests with a ConKC dog. Both the AKC and UKC have been around since the 1880s. The ConKC since 1980. Go figure.
