Are there any coon or yote trappers on here that trap in MS? If so when are the best times to trap???

The season runs from Nov 1 - Feb 28 with no limit, gotta get a license and trap ID # from Dist. Only special deal is you gotta tag cats and otters, Dist. got the tags, 25 cents. Fur prices still low, coons not much at all but you can sell the meat. Grey fox, bobcats, mink, otters are fair, not like it used to be. Think China is a new market, now. Daylight every day deal and rain and piselems mess up your sets. Can't use baits but can use lures. Hawbackers "slober & dig" and "passion lure" are a couple of good ones. Sent posts sets are good to avoid the piselems. Black and wax your traps, wear rubber boots and gloves double your waxed tie wire around somethin green....There's a dude Lewing from La. has a route weekly at some Co-ops buyin raw furs. Make more if you go to meet later and work your hides some too.

Yotes fur ain't any good around here, to many variations in color. Best to noose'em and sell"em to the fox pasture boys, live and kickin. Red foxes too. $100. Some people get'em to go in live catch traps so it don't hurt their foot. LOL

Might add that some larger hunting leases are hiring predator control trappers to remove predators from their property. Fifteen dollars for each beaver and forty dollars for 'yotes, 'cats and foxes. Mink and otters are bonus animals for pelts. You get to keep all pelts. Ain't a bad way to make a living if you can get in on it.

Ok thanks. I copied and pasted the trapping rules and Reg. into a folder offline so I could review them anytime. Im 15 so I don't haveta worry about the license til' Nov. when I turn 16.

What are the best time's to catch a coon during the season? You know kinda like deer rut. Im new to it but, Im learning quick.

The best time to catch coons is right after a rain because that is when they stir the most. I do best around corn feeders and along streams and fence rows. I realy like the coon cuffs traps they are a little more weather friendly than the ol foot trap. Great to see some young blood into trappin. Coons are the easiest anytime, find his track/trail put a stick/chunk to make him step over on to bedded trap on other side. Use guide sticks and if you can find where his trail goes into water, put trap in water, snap! Places where no defined trail can use scent lures like "fish formulas" are the easiest to find if no trappin supply handy. Baitin is not legal but lures/scents are. Fish oil is easy for coons. Some people believe in jelly donuts,HeHe. That's baitin. I used little #1 victor long springs for coons but the #2 are better all around and #3,4s for yotes. Lotta people prefer coil springs. Need to get coons early/daylight so they don't chew out. They make double jaws to help prevent chew outs. Little 22 pistol might be better "coup de grace" than knockin'em in the head. Drownin sets are nice but extra trouble.

Oh, when you catch some little kids cat/ dog take your jacket/shirt off and cover the fangs, teeth and get ahold. Use your feet to let off the springs. Try to be responsible and respect others. Don't put big traps in main trails, use good judgement. If you could get ahold of a copy of "Trapping N. Amer. Furbearers" by Stanley Hawbaker you'd be set. LOL

Im already a member of Trapperman.com and love that place!
Im trapping 308 acers of the best deer hunting around, a creek runs right down the middle. I don't think too many pet cats run around back there but, you never know. lol My supply's come from Cummberlands in MN.
I have some coon lure don't know what the smell is though. lol
Got 6 duke #1 1/2 cs and one Victor #1 1/2 leaf.
I apreciate the help!! Any more advice???

I'm a coyote trapper but I don't have time to run a line right now. I wish I did, I love it. I ususally trap the month of Feb. and some of March.
