mixed decoys question

Postby camoquack » Fri Feb 06, 2004 9:17 am

Does it make a difference if I have wood duck decoys in my spread...or should I go all mallards......I wouldn't think it would make a difference in timber...but how about open water situations......?

In the timber nothing matters. In an open water situation I would use somthing other than all mallards, pintails or preferably something with some white for visibility.

Just an FYI....I used those inflatable decoys this year in the timber and they were awesome!!!! I put a dozen in a backpack and it sure beat the heck out of toting in that darn heavy decoy bag! So basically ditch the woodducks and get some pintail decoys.....do you set up your spead any differently when you have mixed decoys?

Stop telling all our secrets.

Just kidding.

Camoquack is right, those inflatable we used looked awesome and were great transporting them into the timber.

If you throw one female mallard decoy (that is a suzzie, for those of you like benny who don't know, he he) and one hen pintail decoy out, you'll be amazed at the large amounts of drakes of both species, that drop in looking for one of the two: 1). a cat fight, or 2.) some kind of different species menochetwo(sp?)! Man alive it works!

Another great tip complements of the Chopper

Ok Da Benny.....with that being said.....what about magnums or super magnums versus standard.....does anyone think that there is enough difference to warrant a change in my decoy size?

SPOONIES!!!

In open fields, shovler decoys shine like lights and every redneck in the Delta doesn't have them. Give it a try.
