CRAPPIE AT THE SPILLWAY
Any of you guys going to give the crappie a try in the morning below the spillway? The river is way up and still rising. Should be a good morning just a little cold!!!

Alot of people say it will not be any good till the river crests then falls. I agree that is the best time but you can also catch good size perch when its rising also. You just got to get further back in the timeber. Everybody else is going to be in the usual brush tops in front of the bathroom. I think ya gotta get further back while it is on the rise.
As for using jigs or minnows well that is all up to what they want. I have seen a guy use a white jig with a minnow sit there and pull out 1 1/2 pnd perch all day long, another guy can be 3 feet away using the same rig and get nothing but those pesky 6 inch blue cats.
Man there will be so many boats out there this week-end you can walk from the Madison side to the Rankin side and never get your feet wet.,

Guys, i put in and run down the river a couple of miles. I know some spots that are as good as the brush tops in front of the bathroms, except no one else is around.... now crowds what so ever.
Problem is it takes over an hour to launch and 2 hours to load back up. I can easily catch over hundred each time I go, if no one else is in my spot.

It'll be crowded as hell but I've always had a good time down there below the spillway anyway. Good luck to y'all braving the cold to catch them this weekend, It'll be two more weeks before I tote the boat in that direction.

Speaking of catching a hundred
As we all know the limit is 30, but when your pulling out huge slabs of IMO the best eating fish there is it is hard to stop some time, but here is a little story that happened to some fellows I know.
They were wearing em out as usual and they noticed there were two guys fishing from the bank, but hey there is always people fishing from the bank. Now both these guys were kinda "thuggish" if you know what I mean, and nobody really paid them any mind. Well these guys I know had about 60 perch apeice and there were 2 of them. They loaded the boat at the ramp, and like everybody else because it is so busy and they wanted to get out of the hole, they waited till they got almost to spillway road to tie the boat down. Well here comes these two thugs
Both were with the MDWFP. They knew exactly hom many they had before they even asked. Anyway they took all the fish and wrote them both a ticket. The fine was not that bad ( about $100 I think ) but still more than I want to pay.
Moral of the story is you never know who is watching!!! Besides no need to be greedy.

CB,
They have done that to some folks at Eagle Lake. They just sit up at the boat ramp with a spoting scope and nail drunk boaters when they come in. They will pull up to them tell them how many beers they had, who was driving, in what order, "Nice belly buster of the top of the pontoon by the way", etc.
Thats why we never drink out on the boat (well almost never).

Let me clarify my earlier post.... I can catch 100 or 200 but I always come out with 30 in the ice chest. I cull fish until I get tied of catching them. I'm not out to keep looking over my shoulder for game wardens, that takes all the fun out of it. I'll take a buddy or two and we'll each have an ice chest so each of us are soley responsible for the limit.
I'm not gonna chance it. Whether it's deer, ducks, turkey or whatever, it's not worth it. Now, I have been known to shoot a few extra doves before, but that was years aga!
