Toyota Tundra
Re: Toyota Tundra
I went from a f-150 crew to a 08 tundra double cab. There were so many times in the Ford where I needed the extra bed length. The inside of the DC has more room than most extended cabs because the seats have about 2" recess fro extra leg room. The Crewmax had my wife saying "This is too much Room" All I needed to know because I wanted the long bed. 4 wheel pulls like a mofo and rides like a dream best ride out of a 4x4 i can remember.
I have read about excessive bed bounce but I have not experianced that. I t seens that people in places where there are older interstates have isssues with it. My tailgare rattles a little could have had tighter tolorances in the swivel bushings but i can live with it. 18-20 mpg.
Love my Toyota, screw Obama and the UAW!

Re: Toyota Tundra
I have a 2008 CrewMax(four door) w/ the big v8 and its the absolute best truck i have ever driven. I have owned and driven both the four door fords and chevy's... ill never drive another truck as long as i live other than a CrewMax.
I have no problem what so ever w/ the bed size and i use the bed religiously. Pulls amazing, 4x4 is second to none, most spacious interior of any 4door truck out there, hands down! gas milege is like any other truck...just depends on how you drive it. i personally avg anywhere tween 15-20mpg, i do a lot of highway and a lot of city. It is well built both inside and out, as opposed to the fords and the chevy's, i soon found out... what else you wanna know?!?!?
Always lookin for people to DUCK hunt with and diff places to DUCK hunt.... Located in South Delta and hunt anywhere from east MS to E Texas and down to North LA... let me know

Re: Toyota Tundra
I should write a primer on the tundra.
Got a '08 crew that I bought in December of 07. I'm one trip to belzoni and back from turning 75k miles. I had some excessive bed rattle after I got it back from getting spray in liner, but not before so I blame that on the sprayer. That was at around the 200 mile mark and haven't had another issue whatsoever. I don't really miss the extra bed space either because I pull a trailer for the four wheeler and blinds anyway. Didn't test drive anything but the one I got so I don't know about the roominess of the double cab or the smaller engine. Just about everyone that rides in the back seat is a big person, cept the little man in his car seat. And, including myself, there is no wanting for leg room or overall space. Bluetooth and aux port for the phone, space for a laptop (and then some) in the console; back window rolls down; heated seats. Hell I'd rather be in the truck than sitting in my office. There's room under and behind the back seats for tools, guns, straps, rations, rain gear, big first aid kit. You'd be amazed at what all I could pull out of that truck right now. Four of us and a dog went to South Dakota and back in it a couple weeks ago, and and could've turned right around and done it again.
Got it at Gray Daniels and I wish I would have known dudes dad worked there.

At times there is not a satisfactory substitute for well-aimed lead going down range at high velocity.

Re: Toyota Tundra
I have an 07 Crewmax and report zero problems. Did have a sensor that broke off the tranny, was replaced under warranty in a day and cost me zero. I'm at 60k miles, averaging 17.5 mpg long term. The 5.7 is an absolute beast and will pull anything you are crazy enough to hook behind it. A contractor near me pulls a trackhoe behind his. A bigger plus - it will also stop a heavy load even w/o trailer brakes. I also love letting the rear window down - crack my window and the back glass and get good fresh air without sounding like your riding in the bed.
Personally I like the extra room in the back, but the overall length is kind of a drag in a parking lot. I use a trailer for 4wheeler, etc., so don't notice the lack of bed space as much.
The shuttle shift 6 speed automatic at first seemed gimmicky, but after hauling some seriously heavy loads behind it I love the system - going down the hwy at 75, slap it over to manual and upshift or down and keep trucking. Going up/down grades you maintain control, and its kinda fun when you gouge on it and shift it out.
Ride-wise, it's a close second to my Z71 and way better than my F150 supercrew.

All the japanese v-8s are built over here now.
Both the Tundra and the Camry are 100% made in America.
Pretty sure that the Nissan Titan is 90% built here now.
God Bless America
Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to avoid all those models in the future.
you did put in the plug, right?

I'll be watching their used ones and give him a call if I see anything I like.
Thanks for the opinions - good to hear no one has one they want to get rid of after 1 or 2 years.
Couple of more questions - what about aftermarket stuff? I've got a winch on this truck I'm going to put on whatever I get. Anybody bought a winch bumper for one? What's the biggest tire size you can go to with stock suspension? I've seen the leveling kits to raise the front end and like the looks of that but I really don't want to get into a major lift kit or anything.
Re: Toyota Tundra
It seems like as far as room in the backseat goes. The 4 door ford diesels f-250s ect have the most room, 2nd is the latest model 4 door tundra, with the chevys being the smallest. It almost seems like the chevys are shrinking.
I know you're looking at new models but I have a 2000 Tundra with 160k and have had no complaints except for the fact that the previous owner didn't know how to hold a coffee cup.

Ryan!, You better tighten those bed bolts or you are going to get to Belzoni, and discover you lost the bed that you thought 4 sacks of decoys, an ice chest, and Bigwater could hold down with no problem!iron grip wrote:I should write a primer on the tundra.

Can't really add anything that has not already been covered, but I have an 07 Double Cab with the 5.7 and love it! Almost 40K miles and averaged 18.6 mpg overall so far. routinely gets 20 when I baby it. More power and speed than I will ever need.
PM me if you have any specific questions that I can help with.

Re: Toyota Tundra
I have an 08 Crewmax. I have had an eariler model tundra and a extra cab Z71. With 2 boys this is by far the best setup. The bed is a little short but that has not been a big issue for me. I really like being able to move the rear seats foward and put bags behind them when we travel. The kids still have more room than they would have in a 4 door Chevy.
Power to spare. I pull a 31 foot travel trailer and other than the stops to "let her drink" you would not know the trailer is there. Pulls great and stops the load when you want.
I don't baby it so I don't get anywhere near 20 MPG. But I bought a truck with a big engine so I really did not expect too. My only regret was not springing for the better sound system.

I have an 08 crewmax TRD 4x4 Good ride and plenty of room for a truck. Plenty of power to pull my tractor, boat or camper. Downside is 15mpg and hard to see in front of you when parking, turning radius is sort of wide. Bed is short but the type of work I do I don't need it. It's fine for the weekend warrior

Re: Toyota Tundra
I have an 09 double cab. It is a great truck. There is plenty of room in the back. The rear seats fold up to create extra storage space inside the cab. I have had some rattling issues as well that have been resolved. Gas mileage is really the only downside. I am probably getting around 16 mpg.

Re: Toyota Tundra
DUDE the turning radius is smaller than any of the other trucks.

The only Toyota still manufactured in Japan (including the engine) is the LandCruiser.
