I have never owned a diesel, but the last 2 1500 Z71's I had were still going strong at 200,000. The seats were starting to wear out though. i had to replace the alternator on both but other than that, there wasn't really anything I had to do to the motor or transmission.

There is kinda a catch to a high mileage truck, you can get 500,000 out of most modern motors, its the stuff the motor runs that wears out. Such as axles, wheels bearings, transmission, ect. a mechanic for GM told me that, I drove my last Dodge till the tires fell off (wheel bearing burned out) replaced it and put another 50, 000 before trading it in.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

my buddy had a mid 90's 3500 chevy diesel that rolled a million miles while i was in it one day, general maintenance and a few small repairs but original motor and tranny, he sold it the month after hurricane katrina and a guy used it to pull campers. I think if something is taken care of it will go alot longer than the average person in today's society is normally willing to drive one.
