Re: another shooting
My permit application is being processed. Anyone know why it takes a couple months to get it in MS and a couple days in AL?

MS really does check your background.
That or it sits on someones desk for 3 months.

Re: another shooting
The state of Mississippi will wait the full 120 days, why..... I don't know. Other states process theirs much faster, but require you to take a training class. I suppose the brain trust in Jackson believe through osmosis that after 120 days you will be better prepared.
My experience was strange to say the least. I filled out all the required paperwork and paid my money and began the long wait.
120 days later I get a notice in the mail that my fingerprints didn't take, have to redo them. I jump in the truck and head back
down to Batesville, new prints and begin the wait again. After a month of waiting I got through to the SGT. of the MS. Hwy. Patrol that approves the permits and he tells me we are in a holding pattern until the FBI clears me. Another month goes by and
I make another call, he is sympathetic to my plight and tells me he is going to go ahead and send me my permit, but if there is a problem he will call me and I will have to send it back. I guess the second set took, because I never heard another word from them. I fingerprinted with the ink, but I think they have electronic finger printers now, so I hope when I go to renew I won't have the same problem.
I for one, would not be against a required training class. There is a lot of "IF's" when you decide to pull your weapon and actually use it in a self defense situation. I have a buddy that teaches the class for the state of Tennessee and am on his roster to go sit in on a class. Whether its guns or driving (I work for a trucking company) you can never have too much safety pounded into your head.
