CRP / WRP Bucks Delta

Postby SWAG » Fri Oct 30, 2009 12:56 pm

How many of you have had experience hunting a known buck that is spending a large portion of his time, at least almost all of his daytime hours, in a large tract of CRP or WRP with trees large enough to not allow one to see very far but still small enough to not support a 250 lb+ man :) ? Hoping the big guy moves some and gives me some type of advantage. Went in last week and clipped a very very very small shooting lane along a trail he is using to exit the field that I thought I could set up on from the ground....messed up, have not got a picture of him since off of a trail cam located farther down the trail, had 2+ weeks of pictures of this deer on this trail and now apparently I have gotten a little too close when cutting the shooting lane. This deer will eventually be moving in areas that will offer a better chance at cutting him off, BUT he will also be venturing into areas that will get him shot by someone else. Would like to get a crack at him during the next 2-3 weeks before this happens. Deer is heading to a large un-cut soybean field. Have no other pictures and not sure where he is re-entering the CRP.
Are we gonna get wet?

I have only hunted in that environment a few times.. And to tell you the truth it is like hunting South Tx where the only way to hunt is to catch them crossing scendaros or gas lines.. But I don't know if that is an option for you or not. I think the deer will use the shooting lane eventually after things calm down a little bit...

There was a guy out at our camp that has a tripod that was made out of aluminum. He said he used it for unting CRP. It weight like 30 lbs and folded up and he said he would pack it in and out of the CRP.

tripod in a middle of the a clump of the smaller trees with a a few of the tree tops and limbs zip tied to it and play the wind. Only way I've figured out to hunt a good trail in CRP.

Saddle up a horse and get the wind in your face, buck shot or a good ole 30-30. probably not the best way to kill the big boy, but it sure would be fun!

I doubt you ran him out of wrp/crp for good. He is probably moving in an out a different way now. He is till there. Just find his new trail.

A Q-beam at 2 AM seems to be the preferred tactic in my area.

A big buck in my area got killed last week. Of course, bow season here includes high powered rifles and county roads. Wingman, you should come back, they getting brave again since you left.

I am sure it was around me

It will show up in the batesville big buck contest and then the story will leak and i will start investigating. It seems to be an all too common yearly ritual.

I hope Marcus works as hard as you did Rob.

Tombstone, this was not your man. This deer was killed outside Crowder by another road hunter. We been watchin the deer all fall just for a poacher to smoke it in a bean field from the road before season. Business should be picking up your way very soon, though. A dummy deer could do some good over there.

Tombstone, all you have to do is give your neighbor the info and the Delta Company will spring into action.
