what kind of anchors?????

I was wondering what kind of decoy anchors I should go with. I am tired of the wrap around the neckers. They are a hassle when you are moving a lot, and they wear on the decoys after a while. I have seen the ace anchors, and I like the make , but was wondering about the rubber strap and if it will hold up. Also do ya'll recommend the tangle free line or is this just a hoax. Thanks for any input...

Tanglefree Line plus Ace Decoy Anchors made in Holcomb,MS, best I've ever used. You can get them from Cabela's for $12.99 plus S&H or from a sporting goods stores for around $20

That tanglefree was the best stuff ever, till avery made theirs. That avery line is the poop man, the poop. Buy the lil crimps they sell with it, cause you cant get good knots in the line.

Our rig, that avery line wif crimp, circle of line at bottom with a crimp, rubber bands or a ponytail stretchy inside the circle, with 2 spark plugs on it. Plugs are free, and the stretchy (the best, but cant find in quanties), or the rubber bands pull over the ducks head to keep line wrapped up, you can even get the bands off with gloves on. The sun kills rubber bands, so you'll break both of them (we put 2 on a time on, so when one breaks, oyu got anoother) by the end of season on a lot of yo deeks, especially if pick up all season like we do. Aint never figgered out buying something for weight, for regular deeks. You got 2 dozen deeks, then spend the cash for some nice weights to make it easy on you. You got 12-14 dozen, you dont really think spending 2 bucks a deek for a weight is a good ideal. travis

the Ace anchors are the way to go as of now..{they sure as heck beat the straps and bell ancors and even the cone anchors as we know them..} i don't think that Ben had ant thing to do with the development or promotion of them, if i found out he did, i would cut my decoy cords and let them float ....

Judge JB -- Just mail those ACE anchors to me. Benny did, in fact, have something to do with the creation & initial marketing of the ACE anchor.

My choice for shallow water decoy sets (up to 5-feet) consists of 300-lb mono attached to the decoy with an aluminum crimp. You can purchase the crimps & the mono from Memphis Net & Twine or virtually any commercial fishing supplier several of which are on the web. The line is clear or a light blue mist and is much less visible in the water than the black & green lines. The anchor is a 3-ounce bell sinker. Stick the end of the mono through the hole in the egg sinker until it just sticks out the opposite end. Hammer the sinker flat -- this holds the line inside the sinker & there is no crimp to catch on your decoy bag or grass.

The best part of this deal is the price. The crimps cost about 1/5 of the price of the Avery crimps & the line is also substantial cheaper than the various tangle free decoy lines. The sinkers, at my supplier, go for $7.50 for 20 of them.

I just throw them into the bottom of the boat and have never, never had them tangle.

For deeper sets, I use Big Scoops. Hope this information helps people save some $$. [img]images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]

Best, cheapest weight/rubber combo is any weight that is readily available to you at no cost and a 1/2 inch strip of innet tube. Tie your cord to the weight (I use small pieces of lead melted down from old decoy weights my Daddy made (those suckers weighed a pound, I bet) with a hole in them (used a nail. Then I tie on the loop of inner tube at the top of the weight. Wind those babies up however you want and loop the inner tube around the keel, head, whatever you want. They stay tight and can be done with gloves. I've use the same loops of inner tube for five years now, haven't had to replace, but replacement is not a problem. You can use spark plugs, lug nuts, anything for a weight with this system.

You can also just pour your own with scrap wheel weights from tire stores.

First of all, I just ordered 4 dozen anchors from ACE. You know why, because they have Philippians 1:21 on their main page. Now I know the arguments we've had with certain people, but I sent them an email and this morning, I get one back from Carl Marascalco. He's throwing in an extra dozen at no charge!!! Now if that isn't service, nothing is. Don't hold anything against these guys because of what has happened in the past. I will outfit all of my decoys with ACE whenever they need new anchors.
