Federal Duck Stamp and post card

Postby BrianB » Thu Nov 15, 2001 1:59 pm

I just bought my federal stamp at the post office like I have always done, but this time, they made me fill out a post card with name and address and gave me a little log to record my hunts on. It says to keep the log becasue they are going to be sending me a questionaire. Is this new for this year?

It's a conspiracy, Brian. You live in Alabama (although you hunt over here) and they want to know everybody else's opinion but ours, since we've gone an' takin' matters into our own hands 'bout settin'/changin' the season up, however it suits us.

'Only survey we've seen (since the HIP)....Anne got a form (from MS)she's spose to fill out tellin' what she kills....only trouble is, it's only got spaces for about 10 days. That'll 'bout cover what she kills in MS once the season closes in Louisiana......'wonder what happens with the harvest info from the 60 days she'll hunt, over there? 'Guess it's wasted! 'Wish I knew how all that works. Maybe that's their idea....to keep us guessing.

Federal Duck Stamp and post card

OK Guys I can shed some light on this for you. The card you fill out at the post office is simply an information data card that give the NDWF's your name and state. You will receive a form in the mail that will need to be filled out on your kills for the season. With this data they will be able to get the Harvest Information for locations that you hunted. (Locations be states not specific areas) The HIP data that is only 10 days or so on the small card is for comparison of hardcore hunters verses weekend warriors that don't kill many birds. The object of that comparison is to make sure when the pool for data that the sampling selected is not too one sided. If all the data that was collected was from hunters that hunted 20 plus days taking a large number of birds over those days it would not be a fair sampling because those figures would show a much larger kill ratio than what was really taken. Same for those that hunted only a couple of days with a few birds showing a under kill for the state.
It is all in how the sampling is taken and how they select what group you belong in.

Clear as mud huh?

Be sure to fill it out correctly guys it is how the Fed's see us and get their data on our total estimated bird kill.
