color patterns
Those that brush blinds and boat and anything else.
Do you paint your base color darker and follow up with a lighter stencil or brush or do you paint the base a lighter color and come back with a darker stencil or brush?
I am getting away from green. A green boat or blind where I hunt just doesn't work. My gut says paint the boat khaki and come back with a darker stencil patter. But I'm starting to think that a darker base with a lighter stencil would help cover the boat better. Your thoughts?

i feel like the lighter base mite make it stick out unless you come back with a heavy secondary base.... just my two cents walt... its not worth alot...
try bright yellow and pink.... it works for 4dawgma.

If it wasn't for bad luck then i would have no luck at all........

Re: color patterns
do not paint the base coat a light color.... no matter how much top coat you put on it will glow like a christmas tree... had a friend of a friend do it and he had to strip the boat and start over...

Re: color patterns
Had an older fellow tell me once to paint my stuff grey. A lot of things in the woods are varying shades of grey, from cypress trunks to dead logs and limbs.
I painted my pirogue a medium shade of grey and came back with a taste of brown and black.

base color of Olive Drab and then stencil in Black Brown and Tan
Re: color patterns
Obviously, it depends on what type of cover your boat will be postioned in. And, I'm like Wingman, Brakes and Sloughs definitely have the "Gray" look.

Painted my boat a mud color. Bought the paint and mixed it untill it looked right. Then came back with dark green "worms" (the vertical lines in bottomland). Took black and made "shadows" on parts of the boat to break up lines like gunnels, etc. Turned out awesome for fields, woods or willows.

Sorry, but I cannot show you pics of the Swamp Fox. If those pics fell into the wrong hands, the Russians might be on to our technology.

I'll be applying my second cost today. Wedding over the weekend then come back with a 3rd possibly just to get the paint good and thick.
Then I'll come back with the stencils. I'll start the picture thread of killin.
P.S. Just over 21 days till killin time!!

My thoughts on it are a little different than everyone elses'. I figure ducks flying overhead can't see the sides of my boat (not much of it anyway) but they shouldn't have any problem seeing down into it, so, I painted the inside and not the outside. And, since there aren't any 14' x32" boat shaped trees or logs where I hunt, I painted it to match the color of the water, which is muddy and leaf stained flood water. I went with a dark tan for the base with some light gray highlights to look like reflected sky, and covered with dark brown lines, squares, and triangles to kill the silhouette.

The inside will be painted as well. And stenciled.

Re: color patterns
99% of the time if you've got it pulled up against the bank or in some trees grey is going to be your best color.
I started with grey, then brown splotches, then the black lines. It looks like a grey bottomland.
Hides great. Anywhere from botton willows to anywhere along the bank. Even up against grass cause it blends with the dark water.
