Feist Dog

Postby stitch » Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:14 am

.....my wife was looking for a Yorkie or similar dog for the kids to have around / inside the house.......she was looking at spending some serious $$$......well, yesterday I came home with a $40 Feist dog!

Now what?

I know these things are supposed to be good squirrel dogs. The puppy is only 6 weeks old....never had a Feist, what's the best way to get him started?

I've got one. Can't train em for anything. I'm not talking about blind retrieves but simple stuff like stay outta the trash. Likes to try and get on the bed. Try being emphasized. Great with our 6&3yo kids. Never snips or growls. Super friendly. Too friendly. Always getting right up in your face. All in all I hoped for a bit smarter dog but I think I broke even. :?

"Bad dog" as in bad dog......or "Bad Dog" as in he is really cool, a really good dog?

Everything I've read on them is that they are very friendly and very smart........not as hyper as a Jack Russell

Bad Dog as in Cool 8) , he is right at 8 wks old and thinks he is 50lb, I got him from a friend who has the mother. She is a great dog as far as hunting, family or riding around on the 4wheeler, she is very smart. He follows my labs everywhere they go.

I got one in my neighboorhood that bites at me everytime I run by. He may be getting hit with mace on the next run.

Great dogs, I think it just depends on how much time you spend with them. Another great dog for kids is a beagle.

you did good.
feist good family dog and not as sexually confused as a uyourkie.
most feist are smart and will tree a squirrel quickly with little training. if you keep him outside put a corncob feeder about 10 feet up a tree trunk and the squirrels will drive him apesh!t

+1

Y'all will love him! Got my wife a Rat Terrier to help save my hunting buddy. Very food motivated, so you can use that as a method of training as well.

Good luck, and enjoy the ride. It's gonna be one helluva trip.
