It also sounds like from what you say that you didn't have to pay a cash fine. He allowed the community service to be your fine. In MS they can actually keep your liscense till all fines are paid. Wake up! The judge might have just saved your life or someone elses! 85 is just too fast period!

I have an interesting story about speeding from this past weekend. On the way to Oxford I got pulled over just north of Winona. The cop says I was doing 86. I am known for going to slow on the interstate, but today I did have my cruise on 73 just to keep my wife and our friends happy. I explained this to the cop, but he just said give me your license and insurance. After 10 minutes he motions for me to get out of the car. I thinking damn if this were 15 years ago I would be nervous, but I am pretty tame as I have gotten older. The guy says that he could have clocked somebody else going 86 and told me to have a good day. I was standing there thinking this cant be happening. There really is no way out when it is just my word versus his. Well here is where it gets interesting. Two different people at church started telling me about getting pulled over on the way to Oxford, and they were both told they were going 86 and both did not get a ticket. All three of us described the same cop and it was just north of Winona for all three of us. Why would this guy pull three people over and say they were going 86 and not give a ticket. All three of us were very glad to not get a ticket, but we were all pissed that we could have when we really were not speeding. The whole deal was really weird. Sorry for the long story.

Speeding just a little is kinda like being over the bag limit just a little. It's either is you is or is you ain't.

I think it should of been more. No offense to you. Is the punishment really enough to keep you from doing it again??? I bet you speed while going to community service. I am not picking on you just making a point. We all speed, but if you got that led foot use your speed control.... But you are lucky they didn't hit you with Reckless Driving...

The guy was approx. 40 yo, black, and a state trooper. Even though he was pretty stern acting, he was very professional and kind to not write a ticket. Wingman, I agree that speeding is speeding but 72 in a 70 is generally accepted where 86 is a much different ballgame. I doubt many troopers would write a ticket for anybody going under 75 on an interstate. All in all the guy was very professional, but I just dont see the point of pulling people over for 86 in a 70 and not writing the tickets unless he knew they really werent speeding.
