He took about 5 weeks. Probably a litle longer now. I'm sure he's got a lot to do because the season just closed. He's still pretty quick.

Shane Smith is undoubtedly one of the best I've ever seen. He's in his early 30's and has already won a National Championship. Plus, he's a big-time waterfowl hunter. Expect around $200/bird (depending on mount). His number is 256-495-2596. He has a website to see his work. Also, he has guys shipping ducks/geese etc. in from literally everywhere.

Jimmy McGuire is a long time friend of my family and does some of the best work I have seen. I have let him do several deer and ducks for me. Great work!!

I have a pintail up with Jimmy McGuire now. He really does do a great job. My next duck mounting will be alot of work so I don't know who I will use. I am gonna either do a stringer of ducks or a bunch of teal or something on a log :). I want something that isn't just the same old mount. I think Jimmy can do all of these types of things too. Just give him a call.

I would use Andy Stanford in Saltillo, MS. His number is 662-869-2058. He is 30 years old and been doing it for about 15 years. He charges $100/bird. He donated taxidermy to be given away at DU events, NWTF events. If you want a real good job, let him do it. You tell him how you want the mount, he will do it. He has 3 at his shop he is doing now for me and I have 4 at home he has done. Good guy, good price, quality work.

I need some help finding another taxidermist that is cheaper than $350 for a goose. I understand a goose should be higher than a duck, but not $200 more? :?

Another Taxidermist that is at the same level as Shane Smith in my opinoin is over here in my neck of the woods. David Luke is his name. I have never been to Shanes shop so can't coment on it, but have seen a lot of his work and its awesome. David's is also right on that line. He is also one of the official taxidermists for the Smithsonian, that should give you and idea of his work. I can tell you one thing I have four ducks mounted from what people told me were "good" taxidermists. And the mouts were good, but when I see Shane or David's work I almost cry that I didn't bring my animals to them. A mount becomes a memory that will last a lifetime, do it the best possible way so it is that much easier to remember the story that goes with it.

I went to Lamar in Boyle during the middle of the week and he was closed. I took a Pintail to Nelson Taxidermy to see what kind of job he does. Some say he does a good job.

I second the motion on Shane Smith in North Alabama...He is one of the best in the US....not just the area...I have 6 or 7 he has done for me.

Very high quality work....Take a look at his website...Do a search under Artistic Creations by Shane Smith.

Most "journeymen" level taxidermists do "good" work, but a very few do "world class" "superlative" work.

Depends on what you are looking for.

:D Tommy Lovelace in Brandon at Ellis Solomon's did a Pintail for me last year. He did a great, awesome, wonderful, job!! I have had very many compliments on the mount, including one from Santa Claus!! I will be taking my banded mallard drake to him next week. He knows ducks, as he used to guide in the delta when he was in Jr. High and High School.
