gravel cost

ANybody know what a oad of gravel is going for now. I want somethign kinda big. Want to use it in a "playground for the kids. would need enough to fill a 15 foot by 15 foot square probably 8 inches or so deep.

About $14.00 a ton up here. You need about 11 tons to do that size of an area at 8 inches deep.

Obviously that price doesn't include someone hauling it for you. That is the price I pay when one of my guys goes to the gravel pit and picks it up.

why would you want to put GRAVEL down in a playground area for kids....not very smart someone is gona get eye put out or window broke or something ...kids WILL throw rocks....if it was me i would put down sand....

i would put down the new rubber mulch. that shat is expensive though

Just figured that would drain better than mulch, won't have to be replaced. Far enought from the hosue so windows shouldn't matter. That rubbber stuff is too high and hot.
They have big washed gravel at my sons preschool and it seems to be the best.

Large gravel is a liability, but pea gravel isn't so bad. Some of the higher end apartments seem to be going with synthetic turf. If money is no object, this is the way to go.

Sand would be better than anything will drain better and the kids can have a sand box too....

Wife said oh no on the sand. Said they will wear it into the house. Kind of agree, my son all but rolls in any kind of dirt he can find as it is.

...aint you never seen the Shawshank Redemption? Just take your kids to a playground that has the rubberized muclh and get them to fill their pockets up. By the time their kids are old enough to play out there it should be full.

Also If you have sand and you have any cats around, They will find it... I know from experience..
Even though, the kids loved the sand and it gives when you fall from the monkey bars..

I used pea gravel and it works great. It has been down for about 2 years now. If the kids fall in it, it doesn't hurt them, it is too little too throw and break anything, and the kids treat it like a sandbox. The love to play with there bulldozers and backhoes and move the pea gravel around and make roads in it. Be sure to put down some landscape fabric before you put it down. You will not regret it.
