Has anyone heard that Ford was getting the Cummins in 2012?

redduck wrote:I have a dodge and it's a diesel and will pull anything I hook it to. If you look at a dodge or ford get a standard transmission. with at lease 3.73 gears 4.10 if your really pulling heavy loads. Might even want to consider 4.56. But the deeper the gears the less fuel economy you will get. I don't think chevy or ford can match the performance of the Cummings,

I have a 2000 GMC 1500 with a 5.3, it has 351,000 miles on it. I pull a 32ft 5th wheel camper with a boat behind it. I am on the original engine and tranny.

I own a parts house and a shop and I can tell you GM has the better product. Ford comes in 2nd and don't get me started on a Goat.

I have a 2004 2500 HD with 160,000 miles on it and the first problem I've had out of the truck was within the last month. It slowly began leaking transmission fluid. Replaced the gasket, filter and new fluid and it runs like the day I bought it. Mine is a gas burner, but you know going in you won't be getting good mileage so I don't worry about gas mileage as much as others may. Plus I'm not driving mine everyday as I once was. (Bought a little Honda Accord to drive for work a few years ago) The most I normally pull with my truck is my 40HP Kubota on a 20' trailer but it handles it with no problem. I've also pulled a friends 26' Glacier Bay numerous times with no problem. Otherwise just normal towing of a boat and four wheeler. You won't even know they are behind you. The truck is heavy enough that loads like these don't push you like it would in a lighter truck.

are you wanting gas or diesel? ford makes the better diesel 3/4 ton and chevy makes the better gas 3/4 ton.

I'm wanting a diesel. I've already had ford and dodge... I'm not too impressed with their transmissions though... Overall they were decent trucks, but, I've only heard great things about Allison.

Hands down get the chevy. I had this same debate about a year ago but i was looking for a used truck. I talked by self into buying my first and last ford. I have always owned chevy and never had any problems. I bought the ford because i liked the looks and it had more interior room. In the year that i have owned it, it has been in the shop 3 times. It is currently in the shop as we speak. After driving both the chevy and the ford i think the chevy has a better ride. Needless to say my next ride will be a CHEVY.

The 06 my father owns is a duramax with the allison 6-speed transmission. the truck will flat out haul! It shifts like a dream and has more power than you can imagine (and it's stock-- i don't even see why anyone would need a chip to add horsepower or torque to those things, believe me they've got plenty of both). go with the duramax and you won't be disappointed.

I've got a 2006 2500HD with the Allison trans as well. Crew cab 4x4 LT3 package. all the bells and whistles except the sun roof.
I put a programmer in it for the fun of it and added a lifetime air filter to it. I run Goodyear 285/75/16's and I have a lead foot. I consistantly get 14+ in town and 18 if I set the cruise on 70...over that it goes down a little.
I pull my 22ft Ranger bay boat and still get 12 mpg as long as I stay below 70.
Friggin Jackson thiefs stole it a few months ago and put gas in it. I had the dealer clean it out ($900) and it is on the road again running like a charm. If it would not have been recovered, I would have bought another one!
