Re: house building question
In the process of building one now and should be done here in a week or two. I did everything I could work wize to save as much money anywhere I could. My father in law is a builder and developer so I just used his sub's at his price and got all material at his price. If you have never built one or don't build many it's best to go with a builder and you wil come out with about the same money and half the head ache of trying it by yourself. You are going to pay 20% more just for materials and that could be about the difference in price if you had someone build it.

Re: house building question
Being a 3rd generation builder,I would suggest you find a subdivision in your area with the type of homes you would like and are in youjr price range.Ask several home owners who their builder was and if they would build or buy one from hin again.Afteryou get some good references from the home owners I would call the Better Business Bureu and the Association of Homebuilders for more info on there reputation. You can also talk to several real estate agents for a good builder.Try to find one that has done the actual framing and carpenter work hisself before becoming a builder.Builders that started out at the bottem end of the process tend to be more knowledgable than a builder that took some colledge courses and passed the(in some counties very easy) liscense exam.

Bville area, I would talk to Larry Montgomery and Mark Payne. I know these guys well and they do really good work. Mark builds the houses and has over 20 yrs exp in custom homes. Check em out though. Rite now you could build a really nice house for less with all the subs and primes being hungry with no work. Especially if yall are talking about building a couple on your place together. That would save yall all money

Re: house building question
Larry Montgomery does quality work. He is going to be more expensive than some of the jakelegs that call themselves contractors, but you get what you pay for. Donnie Shaw also builds custom houses. People in the Clarksdale area can comment on the quality.
