Do any of your camps have cutover rules? Ours has one that only allows primative weapons in cutovers (for safty reasons). We are trying to update the rules to accomondate the new HUGE Gas line that comes thru our camp now. Some members want to treat it as a cutover, which means you can only hunt it with MS State Law Primative Weapons, some members want to allow rifles..
Those that want to allow only primative weapons want it for safty reason because of the limited distance on the PW, which is not so limited anymore... Others don't think there will be an issue of safty using rifles on the long range shots on the gas line, with proper stand placement.... But if you limit those stands to PW only that takes away the ability for young hunters to hunt those stands..
Do any of your camps have any rules like this?

Re: Cutover Rules
Have all the stands on the same side and front legs touching right of way which is really the only legal way and you won't have to worry about shooting a mile cause you can't see that far
Get em WET!............Their feet that is.

I bet Rodney is one of the ones against rifles on the power line. Is that correct?

Might as well make it 100% bowhunting. I think safety is a copout in this situation. Unless you got some yahoo just slinging bullets. Which is always possible in a deer camp. Hope it works out in your favor either way.

I would say they have a point if Primative Weapon was still Black Powder.. But when a 375 H&H out of an Encore is state legal primative weapon, it just doesn't make sense, especially when you put these nice big new tower stands on the pipline and then want to make a rule that will just about eliminate any youth hunters from hunting out of the stand. Most 8 or 9 year olds are not going to shoot a 444 or 45/70...

I don't think it would be a safety issue as long as all of the stands are on the same side and make a rule that you can not shoot off the ground, only from a stand. That way any shots made will be out away from the stands and will going towards the ground. The shots that are made a ground level are the ones you really have to worry about.

Re: Cutover Rules
We have big gas lines and power lines that run through our property and we allow all types of firearms on them. Like someone else mentioned, proper stand placement and make sure all are on the same side of the line and you all will be fine

Re: Cutover Rules
Make sure they are on the same side and at least a quarter apart. The rule about not shooting from the ground is a good one. Also, having a rule that you can only hunt from the shooting houses on the pipelines during rifle season, no lock ons or climbing stands.

Re: Cutover Rules
The only rule u need is "no shooting from the ground". That will elminate most of the risk as long as everyone checks out for a specific area and u have a pretty good idea of where everybody is.
No, i don't want to know you ---- teul

Youth can use any gun during PW season, so problem solved for them. Turn them young un's loose. Dont limit them b/c grown folks cant agree.
