Benny, I in no means want to get in a pissen contest over a dog, but, in my opinion, special means should have been taken to protect this dog. You said that the wife should have left the animal where she found it. I disagree. If the dog was taken to the shelter it would have been put down properly, not shot. Just my opinion.

And may I ask how being put down one way over the other is better.

I have shot many of my dogs once they got down to far to recover.

I've seen what the Vets shot does and I say no thanks.

Listen, this a personal thing that maybe I shouldn't have posted. However I felt like hey let's not all have this big love fest welcome back w/out airing the facts.

I assume the whole capping his booty(which I'm sure is true) was meant to get a reaction from me, and hurt my wife. Well my wife doesn't read this so no problem, and if I tell her she'd be happy to know the dog is no longer in those conditions.

You see my wife to a point of fault is insane for taking care of any living creatures. While she understands I hunt and that's me she doesn't bad mouth it and she doesn't participate in it either.

However if you've ever driven down the interstate and cussed some lady for running across traffic trying to flip a turtle back on it's feet you've probably met my wife.

Fact is if someone had not VOLUNTEERED to take the dog we would still have the darn thing. However I didn't realize that a lifetime umbilical cord was hooked to my wallet and that dog.

One final fact then I'm done, the memo section of that check didn't say "to help offset cost of a stray dog you took of your own free will" it said "loan"

Guess I still have a little "City Boy" left in me. I havnt owned a dog in years, but, I know I could never shoot my dog. Different strokes for different folks.

+ there's no sense in throwing good money after bad

I think there are substantial costs in putting a dog to sleep

Well I can tell you it is a damn hard thing to do.

I loved my Lab of 17 years like it was one of my children. The dog was down so bad it couldn't stand and was messing all over it self and it was time. Who better to end it life than someone that loved them as much as life itself. No damn Stranger is is going to do it, My dog deserves better.

At the very least I should have the strength to remove her suffering and I did. Don't have nothing to do with being a City boy and everything to do with love for the animal.

After paying to put the dog back togather two times, whats a little more to have em put down? I believe this to be something we will never see eye to eye on. I have never shot any of my pets, im 38, Ill probably make it the rest of my life without shooting one of my pets ( I hope) I have paid to put a ferret to sleep. I couldnt shot the little guy...no matter how big of a pain in the booty he was. I am not going to condemn somebody who does, I just dont agree.

Well that's fine we don't have to agree it is a personal thing and each man has to do it their own way.

I'm pushing 50 and I have done 4 of my dogs and two of my wifes cats.

She wouldn't talk with me for two weeks after I did it. Now she understands fully. (Still think she's a bit pissed and just won't admit it)
They were both over 10 years old and suffering from some cat disorder and was costing us a arm and leg to maintain. Not to mention the smell.
She thought I was going to carry them to the Vet to be put down and freaked when I told her there was no charge because she knew what I did.

Okay read all the posts I took back the meth thing and even apologized(goes to show what a dumbasss I am, the fact I'm apologizing to you for anything).

I guess $300.00 isn't a lot to you, to me a $3.00 loan is a lot if someone thought enough of taking their money and loaning it to me.

I don't need or want to turn you into the bad guy. But I ain't feeling sorry for you either, I ain't going shed a tear for you, you ain't going hear me say poor Benny what a good guy. Why would I? I've been here long enough to see you stand on enough throats from behind that monitor. So it ain't going happen. Live and let live that's fine, but I ain't going jump in some big love fest for you.

Don't give me that shiit you know you did right and you know I think I did right. The only thing I'm guilty of is caring too much for a stray dog and caring about another human in trouble.

I'm lucky up till now lifes been good to me, so the $300.00 didn't break me. Matter a fact I'm so stupid I'd do the same thing all over again if someone needed my help.

OKay now I'm done.

I have also had to shoot a dog, that wasn't very enjoyable, but I had to do it. The hardest thing that I have ever had to do was shoot a horse. He was 27 years old, very sick, and stuck in a deep mudhole. He wasn't even trying to help himself when we tried to get him out. I have never experienced a feeling like I felt when I put the first .270 round in him, and he flinched and kept staring at me. It took several well placed shots. I had to be the one to do it, because neither one of my brothers would do it. I don't think that it makes me cold hearted, because it had to be done. Ol George suffered no longer.
