Postby Swamp Dawg » Mon Nov 12, 2001 4:04 pm

recently gotten in a new lease in ark and the guy that we sent to p/u decoys bought 10 dozen pintails instead of greenheads. His thinkings is as long as there is motion on the h20 everything will be o.k. (just wanting to know ya'll thoughts on the the motion on the water or if ducks are as smart as everyone says they are and no the diffrence.

Ducks is smart, Hunters is dumb........10 dozen dekes of any kind will draw an eye.... never had that kind of spread. good luck, a dozen dekes has always worked for me.... but then again, i like to shoot the tops out of cypress......

When we hunt the Res, we use from 6 to 10 dozen dekes and about 6 each canada dekes. We also use 4 dekes with the H20 magnets mounted inthe dekes to keep the water moving.
The only thing you need to be careful of when using a lot of dekes is keeping them as close to the blind as possible without bunching them up. We have a lot of ducks that raft up, with a larger spread you can pull the birds in unless you have some one shooting at the black dots in the sky in your area.

Good luck.

I like to mix pintails in with my mallard dekes. I think that the ducks see and respond to the white in the pintail decoys from a longer distance. I like to put in 3 or 4 bull pins per dozen mallards. I wonder if widgeon dekes would do the same, but have never tried that myself. 10 dozen decoys sounds like a backache waiting to happen

Deparate times call for drastic measures.

I have a half dozen pintails and half dozen bluebill decoy's mixed in with the mallards to add some color and different look. Can't say that I have ever hunted over 10 dozen pintails. Guess your just gonna have to spread them out and see what happens. I doubt anyone on this board has ever hunted over that many pintails but I could be wrong.
