2 years really two years, I would call and tell him give me my money and my duck and go elsewhere. I have waited a year on one but the guy was loaded with deer and he gave me a cut for taking so long. I think you need to at least call and see whats up.
Damn, i thought I had that one
Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

Re: Turn-around time on Duck Mounts...
After 2 years, he better do great work. Meaning, he should be known for turning out some great peaces. There are a few taxidermist that I have heard state a 2 year turn around. They also have world class work, and have quite the inventory.
My buddy just recieved his birds back afer spending 2 years on one bird, and 3 years on 2 others. Long story short, they looked horrible. I'm no taxidermist, never even tried it, but I'm telling you I could have done a better job. if'n it was me, and my birds, i would definately be on the telephone everyday checking the progress. I'm not saying worrying him to the point he does a horrible mount, but 2 years is a long time on a mount. Then again, what did he tell you when you gave it too him as far as turn around?

If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it
Re: Turn-around time on Duck Mounts...
ww, depends on the taxidermist but some duck mounts I've gotten back within 10 months, some have taken over 3 years. I don't think it would hurt to call and just check in with the gentleman to see where he's at-- he could've had a very long waiting list or he could've just mistakenly skipped over your mount (taxidermists are people too
). Hope your mounts turn out well-- share some pics when you get them back!

oh but btw, the guy that took 3 years? He heard from me quite a bit during the last 12 months of having my bird...

Re: Turn-around time on Duck Mounts...
I would not be afraid to call and ask about the birds.
Some guys take a little while to turn birds around. When I get a bird mounted I don't even think about getting them back for at least a year. Some do quicker work, but a good bird taxidermist normally takes a while. Mounting a bird means getting all feathers set straight and it can be a time consuming process as I understand it. However after two years my guy would know who I was as I would be asking what the status was about every few months.

I usually get mine back in 6 months. He stops all his other work, deer, etc, and does his birds May-July to knock them out.
Re: Turn-around time on Duck Mounts...
Shane Smith is as good as you'll find doing birds and both birds he's done for me were back to me in a year. Call your guy and just ask how the process is going. You don't have to be a dick, but you should at least know when to expect your birds after two years.
It's a bloody mary morning...

If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.

take'm to the waterfowler in olive branch, MS next time, he does have about a yr and half back log( last i heard), but i promise it will be what you wanted if not more, he can blow your mind at how real they look. he has done 2 ducks, and a pheasant for me, and a pheasant for my dad, all were beyond expectations. all he does is birds, and he is awsome at it, ask dr2, hes teaching his son the art

Just call and ask. Sometimes they get lost in the mix. I've gotten them back in as little as 2 months and as long as 4 years. I guess 1-2 years about average. I don't care how good he is, 4 years was too damned long.

I've got one at Pat's now that he has had since February. If I get it back before the end of this year's season, I will be shocked, but I am expecting a long turnaround. the man does the best job I have ever seen, and he hunts his heart. That's the price you pay for giving it to the best. High demand = long wait.
