Belzoni Catfish Festival

Postby Hookup » Thu Jan 29, 2004 9:09 am

I believe this is going on in March or April. Anyway, I was thinking about driving down to this and I was wondering if any of you could tell me if there's anything my little girl can do or see? I don't know if they will have anything for kids? Thought it might be fun and better yet, something to do. Might even try the fish eating contest. 3lbs. is not that much!!!!

Anyone know the dates yet?
The folks in my Belzoni office said it should be on April 3rd. Sound right?

Great story!!! Day before yesterday, my son calls me, all excited, on his way home from visiting friends and skiing in North Carolina. He says, "Dad, you will not believe what I just saw on the side of a UHaul trailer...an advertisent for Belzoni!" I had seen them before, but it was his first time. He got a huge hoot out of it!

Belzoni, MS Catfish Capitol of the World!

Used to stop at the Pig Stand to eat on my way home from courting a girl in Leland! Good memories...both the eatin' and the courtin'!

Bless the Pig Stand. I bow to it's remants every time I pass where it once stood so proudly. That place was awesome. I have great memories of eating there after the hunt when I was a young un. What a landmark that used to be.

Eli D, I hunt anywhere from Vicksburg north to Tchula, and anywhere from Yazoo City west to Belzoni. I still hunt DNF and Panther Creek Swamp a couple of times a year just for old time sake. I usually hunt out of Yazoo City as that's where my relatives live. That's where Igrew up and learned to hunt. Basically, I hunt wherever my benevolent friends and relatives will let me hunt with them! Where you from?

In high school me and about 4 or 5 friends went to the Catfish festival. We told our girlfriends that we were going to someone's camp to work for the day. The next morning our picture was on the front page of the Clarion Ledger, with the other group of girls that we had met up with. It was obvious we were having a very large time. We all had lots of explaining to do to our ladies. That was many years ago, and I still think it's funny.

They will have about 1000lb of mudbugs if you get there early enough.
