Re: Bow Hunting Oxford
Not one of the chosen ones, but there is a real problem with the deer inside the city limits. When my son was in school he lived about 2 blocks East of Handy Andy BBQ off of N. Lamar and had a deer run over in front of his house. And of course a local tree hugging PETA member is trying to raise a stink about it and is all up in arms about it. It'll be interesting to see what the kill numbers will be when the special season ends.

Where'd who go?
Re: Bow Hunting Oxford
Look out, the next stage is that Bob Barker is gonna get involved if he's still alive. He'll come in talking about the beauty and majesty of the deer and how criminal it is to kill one just because we lowly humans have decided that they're overpopulated.
Ask me how I know this. If it weren't for urban hunting, I wouldn't have a place to gig one. Not even sure I could sit in real woods anymore. Too quiet.

Re: Bow Hunting Oxford
As an ex oxford resident, i think this is a great idea. It was nothing to see deer in the city limits and see deer dead on the road. So the real question is would you rather run over a deer and damage your car and ruin the deer or have 20 hunters harvest the deer and likely put the meat to good use. Most of these men will likely donate the meat. Sounds like a win win to me. My office has a house in grand oaks...wonder if I could sneak out there and "help" a little bit!!!

I just want to see the after photos. I know a stud is hanging around somewhere.

Not chosen. I live in Oxford and never knew they were offering the hunts until it was posted on the front page if the newspaper telling 20 people had been chosen

Re: Bow Hunting Oxford
They didn't offer the hunts. The hunters were hand chosen by the mayor and then approved by the MDWFP.

Like I said I wasn't chosen. POLITICS. If your going to do this in a community you should let people put there names in a pot and picknout 20 names. Then let the MDWFP do a check on each person picked to give approval. Howveoes the mayor just come up with twenty names.

Re: Bow Hunting Oxford
I got screwed!. My name was on the list but somehow got dropped?
Anyway I'm probably one of the few guys in Oxford or Mississippi for that matter that has experience as a private citizen in Urban Deer removal. When i lived in Atlanta 89-98, I was involved in National Bowhunter EducationInstruction and several of us were part of an Urban Deer removal program. We did alot of deer removal around North Atlanta, mostly near golf coarses. I never played a round of golf at CC of the South but i rolled a 6 pt on the 17th
.....anyhow i emailed Pat ( mayor) and aked to be put me on the alternate list and that i know enough private residents to have a place to hunt. You let the wrong Big Ricky redneck bowhunter drag a yearly across Aunt Betty's yard with her little great neices and nephews playing.............chit will hit the fan...............it has to done discreetly......we all had tarpps to remove deer and wore plaids.................man i could go on and on......i'm tired of typing.......hopefully i can get on the list...i love this stuff

all i know is that when i lived in oxford i stuck to a very regimented deer removal program. we had a garden an them bastards would reck shop, that was until i started slinging arrows out of my bedroom window. but as far as the legitament program, that would be a blast.

Re: Bow Hunting Oxford
I hunted with a group on a indian reservation that had two golf courses with lots of houses. Our instructions were to hunt it like we were trespassing. Do not get seen, dont let them see your trucks, or anything that resembled hunting. But we could obtain permission from land owners to hunt there property, or there Lots. i killed a deer 5 minutes after a foursome played hole # 11. i went by a house once that had 10 or so deer in the yard, and 3 or 4 up on the deck eating flowers out of pots. after 2 seasons we thinned em out pretty good. The indians turned it into part of a resort and stopped the hunting, now the deer herd is more out of controll than ever i am told.
